Hey Jim1

Thank you for the welcome and advice, yeah it is a bit long winded, Just very excited and disappointed I didn't know him or any of them, but finding this stuff it's bitter sweet, now that my dad can't answer.  please a few quick ? can I post more than one post on this site, in re to CAMPBELL ? also can I look for my mums side at the same time ? I'd really appreciate any help on anyone esp James, info on P.O.W time 1942 , siblings,  his life, or ideas/links. ( I know nothing) and his pals in the photos so I can maybe pass copies onto family. Is it safe to put photos up on this site ? in order to find his military family and friends ?

I'm no expert, but I think I would start with his WW2 history, especially as you have James' pay and service book, which presumably will have his unit and service number in.
I think - and I'm more than happy to be corrected here! - that if James has since died, you can contact the MoD for his records.  You may need a signature from next of kin.
Something for you to think about anyway, and hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge will come along and say more soon!
