I'm half Amer and half Curtis, both sides are Romany, we are related to Beldams, Theason, Rixon, and some others, any news or help most apprieciated, Lyz

Do you know who you are looking for, approximate years of bmd and places? 

Provide a little more info and you might be surprised what some folk can find.

Silly me! I will get the hang of this.
I am looking for the children and Grandchildren of Iantha Amer who was 1 years old in 1901 and lived in Middleton. Iantha married a man called Jack Lewis.
Iantha's Mum and Dad were Owen Amer and Lydia (nee Ball) Iantha was the eldest of 10 (approx)
Iantha and Jack had a scrapyard in Maidenhead 1948, and left it to their sons, think it may be still there.

Somebody here mentions a scrapyard near Maidenhead that used to buy old computer motherboards and took the gold off them.  The person thinks the location was Paley Street or White Waltham.  I link this because the person posting also mentioned the owners might have been 'travellers'.

Finding living relatives can be tricky; one possible way would be to search birth indexes for Lewis children with mother's maiden name Amer - mother's maiden name is on the later indexes.  This would have to be done through a pay-site, though. 

You could also (via the Maidenhead local library probably or the county record office or the British Library) look at electoral registers for Maidenhead for the late 1940s/early 1950s, and find their address for those years.

Are you in contact with any of the other siblings of Iantha or their descendants?  Does anybody remember how many children Iantha and Jack had and what any of their names were?

Thank You so much, Iantha is my Auntie?  She is the daughter of my GT Grandad Owen Amer and her Mum is Lydia (nee) Ball.  I think I may go for a ride all round Maidenhead and see what I can find. Thank You for your help, Lyz

I forgot to say Iantha had 10 children, well, those caravans got real cold in the Winter! I only know that one of the sons was called Jimmy.
My Uncle Tom is old now, and his memories are a bit muddled, my cousins, near my age group don't know, they can only remember Syd Amer who became great friends with Jack Dempsey, Syd beat him up!! Syd had 11 chidren, some are living in or near Maidenhead, there is Sender, Dumpy, (oh my, these names are so embarrasing!) Dinky, well, I can't remember the others, but they were all girls with weird names, his only son I beleive died. Lyz

To find Iantha and Jack's children you can search for free at any large library-they have all the GRO indexes on microfiche.Or you can use the pay per view site on 1837online.

We may not go back much further, in those days if they died they would more than likely be buried in the hedgerow!

Oh dear Lyz 

Easier said than done. I have tried to find Owen with his family in 1871/81 and 91 but afraid I've had no luck- sorry.
Maybe someone else can find them? The problem with these travelling families is that either they didn't want to be found,or they were in the middle of moving from one site to another,so often didn't get enumerated.

However I did find this marriage,on FreeBMD.Maybe if you get the cert it'd help us to find who his dad was,and hopefully stand a better chance of finding his family.
