Yes As I have mentioned before, due to the existence of a Well researched family and a website, the Aldous name once linked to a person on this site is easy, so there a numerous people with these names in there tree.

And if a person adds one extra name, they come through as a hot match again.

If they could just get up to the C's and D's I've got plenty I could hope to be matched

Well I am sure that when GR have ironed out the wrinkles the Hot Matches will be a useful tool.  Checked mine out today and got some matches for one surname that does not appear in my tree  ;D or should that be  :'(

well-I have to say I was my usual sceptical self-but  I've been pretty amazed with the results. I've had two runs of hot matches so far. The first filled in some backwaters of the bit I've been actively researching and I've been trying to make a decision about how much of the detail to include in my tree (where do you stop????). I finally had a reply from someone with 5 matches I mailed in the first run-this is my husband's side of the family I haven't researched since his mormon uncle seemed to have mapped it out pretty well. This person's tree filled in some siblings from the 1850's, and with that info I've been able to get back to 1733 and perhaps beyond in a day using extracted records on IGI. :o

I've also found out there are some sealed records at LDS that I should be able to access (including a family book) because I can demonstrate a family line. Has anyone done this before? What information to you need to provide in evidence?

Debbie,

I noticed on a previous message that your great-grandfather's surname was Metford. I'm also a Metford and since there are so few around (really so few!) I was wondering if we could discuss over email. [email removed to prevent misuse: please use Private Mail facility to swap details.  Thanks, Moderator]

It seems that having a common name in your GR tree is a bit of a curse when it comes to GR hotmatches

Even Bishop has generated so many spurious entries from Alabama to Australia (mine were in Herefordshire/Worcestershre/Staffordshire) A quick check has shown there is one almost certain match though elsewhere.

To me it seem the hot matches are a bit like sticking a tail on the donkey

I logged onto Genes Reunited and checked my tree matches added over the past day. Somebody had been adding names but instead of birth place it had the death index for Western Australia, which made them stand out.  I have 22 surnames on GR from both mine and my husband's family and I was intrigued to see that this person had added over 100 names to 15 of these surnames.
I admit some of the names are common i.e Brown but some are not so popular i.e Farney and Voigt.
Is this some strange co-incidence ???
Has any one else got an unusual number of name matches with this person ???
regards
Linda

I've got a load of those death index ones. They're really not much help to me as the names I've looked at so far are pretty common ones, but I've got 7 pages of hot matches to get through yet.

The ones I've got are from someone called Chris.
Waite, Marchant, Nash, Goddard, Pocock, Hiles, Switzer, Larondie, Harris, Radford, Monger, Harper, Harris, Sixsmith, Fitzgerald.

Hi All,

As I said in an earlier post I was going to take the plunge and pay out for GR - even when I noticed it had gone up to £9.50 ( I thought it was £7.50!!)

Well in the Hot matches I found 3 - 3rd cousins alive and kicking (makes a change from finding dead ones!!)
So although they are quite a few years back in my tree  - it is nice to find someone researching the same name.
In all the fabulous help I have received on this site I have never met anyone in my tree proper - my only contacts have been through my (Rootschat) Website!

So I suppose I have to be pleased - I started all of my contacts so far - presume the others out there were not as keen as me?

Cheers

Keith
