Had quite a number of contacts - none through hot matches.

Received another batch on christmas eve.
It has now got as far as the surname Battle, so it's slow going, still finding more matches on Aldous

I havn't a clue what's going on at GR  :(  I think they've had a bit too much Christmas Cheer  ;D

So far I have replied to 6 contacts (since the last batch of hot matches came out) who are very kindly telling me that 'so and so is not my relative'.   Now I would'nt mind but I did not actually contact any of these people  :o GR seems to have kindly done it for me ::)

I don't think Genes Reunited are doing it for you - I think people are just letting you know that there's not a match on that particular "Hot Match".

Generally Hot Matches throw up a lot of dross, but there are some gems in there.  I've found it quite productive - not least in making contact with a couple of second cousins.  Just need to be patient in wading through the year of birth/place of birth unknowns!

Although I have approx 50 different Surnames on GR,
when I check the 'Hot Matches' it only reveals the Surnames
beginning with the letters A & B!

Any ideas why?

Because GR are working their way through the alphabet.  We're only up to surnames beginning with E.  So it's not you!

Further to the above, I've just looked on the GR message boards, and people there are complaining that they are getting Hot Matches enquiries as if they had initiated the contact.  The conclusion was that people read the e-mail from Genes Reunited as though others had initiated these matches, and not that Genes Reunited had just run a matching program.

Interestingly, looking back over ours, we've had a few hot matches responses which suggested we'd initiated the contact.

Only thing I can suggest is raising this with Genes Reunited - suggesting they make the process clearer in the notification e-mails, or they have a FAQ on Hot Matches.

Your post explains why lol...
