Hi Folks

Just to let you know that I have finally succeeded in uploading my tree  ;D

No thanks to GR who have still not replied to my email......

In case anyone else has the problem I did - no response when clicking on the Import file button - the next window is apparently a popup, so if you have a popup-blocker enabled, nothing happens .

I must admit I didn't know I had a popup blocker enabled, but I do now  ::)

Now to wait and see whether all the zillions of hot matches I discarded reappear the next time GR refreshes the Hot Matches (should be any time now?). In case anyone is interested, I will post the result here....

Best wishes

Angela

Hi All,

So I take it from reading all these replies that in general "Hot Matches" is working?

I say this not being a member (well it is another certificate!!) - but someone has a hot match to my grandmother - giving the same year and place - but as has been pointed out I can't make contact with them as I am not a member - so should I give myself a Christmas present of membership?

Cheers

Keith

Hi Keith, i think you should go for it....give yourself a present.
As much as its a pain in the backside going through the list of "Hot Matches" they can and do come up trumps with some of them.

Happy Hunting

I think GR is probably worth it - it's not very expensive, and certainly a lot of people have made good contacts through the site.  The Hot Matches probably work best for less common names - my last batch included 3 pages of George Jacksons b c1900 anywhere in the world, which was a total waste of time!

Yes I have made 3 contacts through GR, although one was before the Hot Matches started.

One was very obvious since there were 13 entries in his tree which matched with mine.

The other had only two but as one was an unusual name and the other first and middle name, both with the correct dates and locations it was obvious that it was definite.

I've had people contact me with just one name which matched mine but were proved that there was no connection, well Liverpool is a fair size place so not unusual if two people had the same name at the same time.

I think if there is just one entry as a Hot Match I doubt that I would go to the trouble of chasing it up, unless it was so unusual a name as to be certain.

Keith, if you wanted to somebody could possibly make the contact on your behalf and hopefully get in touch that way.
