Bailey in Leicester
« on: Saturday 22 October 05 22:01 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone.

I am looking for my grandad's family, He doesn't know very much about them as he was brought up my another family. His name is John Raymond Bailey, he was born in Leicester on 09/02/1925. From what he was told his mother died giving birth to him and his father placed an advert in the paper for someone to raise him, this was answered my Mrs Smith. He had 12 siblings, some of their names were - Ann, George, Edith and William (Bill), unfortunately he can't remember the others. He is also not sure of his fathers name, but he thinks it was Arthur.

I would be very grateful if anyone can help me find some of his relatives.

Hi Carla

You may be better putting out an appeal for someone who lives near the Leicester records office to pop in and have a look for you.

I have had a quick look myself on t'internet  I haveand have found your grandad's birth is registered Leicester 1st qtr 1925 John R Bailey, Volume 7a Page 338, His mother's maiden name was Farrar.  If you send for his birth certificate (usually abt £7.00)This will give you the full name of his father.  Strange thing is there is no record of a female Bailey (his mother) death in the same qtr unless she died when he was very young, after  the birth.

I Hope this helps

Cheers
Jan

Hello again,

Since my last post I have found some of my grandads siblings,

FATHER - Arthur Bailey born c1882 Leicester
MOTHER - Emily Farrar born c1882 Yorkshire

They were married in 1905 in Leicester. The children I have found are :-

Annie Bailey born 1912 Leicester
Lilian and George Bailey (twins) born 1915 Leicester
Edith Bailey born 1918 Leicester
Ethel Bailey born 1921 Leicester
William Bailey born 1922 Leicester and my grandad
John Bailey born 1925.

We think there are about 3 or 4 more born between 1905 and 1911. If anyone could help it would be great.

Thanks Carla.

Hi all

Since the 1911 Census has been released I have found 3 out of 4 of the other children. It shows Arthur as Head, Emilay as his Wife then children Mary 4, Mable 2 and James 6months. It also shows that they had 4 children, all still alive at this point. My question is where and who is the 4th child?  I have been down to the records office a few times, but find it all too confusing. Would there be any records of christening etc to find this 4th child and maybe to verify the names of the others that I have found using the BMD records online. The family are all from the Belgrave area and in 1911 they were in 2 Malt Office, belgrave and in 1901 emily was in 103 Harrison road, Belgrave. Can anyone help with any of this?

Regards
Carla

So while I was looking, found my Farrar by marriage at Belgrave and a Bailey 6 days old buried with 3 Farrars, 1945 unfortunately but in case addresses help for later

Stephen Edward Bailey 33 Glen St Belgrave

the address of my family

Looking at 1901, my rellie married her brother but I won't confuse with names yet as you are looking for the Bailey children.

Think this is James

BAILEY    James H    Leicester    Leicestershire    1910    Oct-Nov-Dec

There is 1 Mary 1905 but not a first name Mabel, as long shot Lillian May is used by my family but it's really difficult to pinpoint the 4th through the BMD's available

Wow thanks for the info. Was emily burried on that date or is that when she died. We were always told she died through childbirth but that would have been 9th February. The address is the one my grandad had given me years ago

Thanks millions.
