You have me a little confused between Glossop, Hayfield and Golcar and where and when and why
It could be that the Emma Beaumont I gave the birth for is the Emma who is with the Cromptons.
Note that Alice Crompton, as well as having a Holmfirth connection, is not just housekeeper but mother to Charles.
There is also an Emma Beaumont in Golcar, born Golcar 1851, but with parents William and Mary, siblings Mary, Nancy, Martha, William.
Also an Emma Beaumont who is a servant in Huddersfield, born Huddersfield 1850.
If you can clarify where the family, particularly your Emma, was born and where and when they moved, we might be able to do an 1861 look up more easily. Perhaps you could give the full 1871 census and that might help.
Mary
I Think this is the same Emma as well don't get me wrong ; my interest in Golcar is merely that she turns up there in the 81c married to Charles Walkden having married him in 1874 and that Golcar then continued to be the hometown of the Walkdens well into this century.
I keep saying Glossop mainly because i am indoctrinated with this being Emma's birthplace due to the 1881 census-i fully appreciate it is more precise to say Hayfield.
Aah yes i hadn't noticed that thanks , so maybe Alice could be the sister of Martha, wife of John Beaumont. I don't know Martha's maiden name but her age is similar to Alice!?
Hopefully when my fellow Beaumont correspondent gets involved he will be able say something about these others.
Ps How do you make those smileys work?
