emma green beaumont b 1850 look up request glossop derbyshire
« on: Saturday 22 October 05 21:39 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm trying to track down the birth records of an Emma Green Beaumont who was born in 1850 in Glossop Derbyshire.

I have been trying to find out her parents identity for a long time. She eventually got married  in 1874 to a Charles Walkden(b1852 also my gt, gt, grandfather ) in Huddersfield Wesleyan church Buxton road.
Emma  "might" be the  daughter of a John Beaumont and Martha(?) however this is not a certainty.i have been told the following info by a Beaumont archivist -John and Martha were living in Wooldale in 1841,this is in a census. John and Martha had six daughters Esther Jane(bHolmfirth1844),Mary,Ann,Martha,Ellen(bHolmfirth1838) and Sarah and two brothers John and James.

Emma and Charles called their first daughter Gertrude Mary, I think this might be because her mother might actually be Mary Beaumont-this theory is also a possibility because the 1881 census lists two of the above as aunts and  living with Emma and Charles -Ellen Beaumont and Esther Jane Beaumont. If for example Mary had married a Green it would explain why Emma is being identified as a niece to Esther Jane ,Ann and Ellen in the 71c and 81c.Maybe it was Mary who went to Glossop and not John and Martha. The whole thing is one great big puzzle but if i could find out Emma's birth details it would hopefully sort it out! Could you please help?

Does that mean that you don't have her birth certificate to confirm her parents names?

There is an Emma Beaumont registered June qtr 1850 Hayfield Derbyshire Ref 19 652

Hayfield looks to be only a spit away south of Glossop on the map, but it might have been the registration district for the surrounding area.

This might help you along.

Hi

This looks like Emma in the 1851 census index. It looks like her mother was Martha but there is no sign of a father.

Hi,
thanks for your hard work; no i don't have Emma's birth certificate to confirm the parents names,  but thats what i am trying to ultimately find . I realize what i have written is confusing ,it confuses me as i keep trying to work out the "Green name"!The person you mention looks interesting and i will follow that up if i can.

Hi this is fabulous as it is a missing census in my hunt for links . I only had the incomplete picture ie the 41, 71 and 81census info. The 41census  mentions Ellen age 4. Ellen was baptised 22 Oct 1837 Holmfirth parents John  Beaumont and Martha living at Underbank Wooldale .  Esther Jane (or Jane as she has been written in the51c)  turns up in the 71census at Scar Wood Terrace, Golcar ( home of the Walkdens incidentally)having not been born in the 41 c . The Beaumont researcher did not have a record of the 1851 census which now thanks to you records Emma for the first time( being only 1 year old ). We did not have the 51 census because the Beaumont researcher only had the surrounding area of Huddersfield. The fact that John Beaumont is missing from the 51 census is interesting i will need to see if he reappears in the 71c which i will confirm with the Beaumont researcher.  Thank you again!

Hi this is most curious, i have not seen the 1961 census for Golcar ;i will have to cross check and see if Emma Beaumont is indeed absent from it, i will perhaps post this question on roots chat look ups for  Huddersfield. Thinks.. Maybe Hannah  might be Hannah Green  ,maybe after John Beaumont disappears from the 51 c  Emma was looked after here or was she just indeed visiting? There is also a Holmfirth connection with the Housekeeper ;very very interesting. More investigation into this family might turn up the answer!!Thank you!

You have me a little confused between Glossop, Hayfield and Golcar and where and when and why  :P  It could be that the Emma Beaumont I gave the birth for is the Emma who is with the Cromptons.

Note that Alice Crompton, as well as having a Holmfirth connection, is not just housekeeper but mother to Charles.

There is also an Emma Beaumont in Golcar, born Golcar 1851, but with parents William and Mary, siblings Mary, Nancy, Martha, William.

Also an Emma Beaumont who is a servant in Huddersfield, born Huddersfield 1850.

If you can clarify where the family, particularly your Emma, was born and where and when they moved, we might be able to do an 1861 look up more easily.  Perhaps you could give the full 1871 census and that might help.

Hi Hobnob123:
Just have been reading your message re Beaumonts.  Have you done a lot of research on the Beaumont surname? The reason I am asking is that I have a Ruth Beaumont  who married John Crosland 1829 in Almondbury.  They lived in Wooldale, Yks as well I have them on the 1841 and 1851 census living there.  John Crossland and Ruth Beaumont are my 3xgrgrandparents.

Have you come across a Ruth Beaumont in your search. I don;t have much information yet on Ruth's or John's families yet.
