Hi Jane Swan,  Appreciate your reply, I knew about the marriage and Maria who died at two weeks.   However, great information on the change of religion by Henry he married Theresa Godward from Sligo she was catholic.  Henry moved to Millstone Place Nottingham after his marriage, after that I draw a blank.  Thanks again  Gales

Hi  Everyone many thanks for all your good replies.  Every little helps and appreciated.   To isitdust re John, somewhere along the line I was told John went to Sheffield to run a alehouse. This could fit in as lots of the family are in that area but more of the Edleys than Godwards.  Thanks again all.  Gales.

Gales,

I don't know if you have the 41 census:

Norfolk St, Worksop
John 25 post boy born in county
Ann 20 born out of county

No one else in the household

Hi,I am almost sure that this is my grandmothers great grandparents. Her father was John Godward D.O.B 1875 and he was the son of Henry Godward and Theresa Jenkins but called  Thriza by her Irish mother in law Annie.Jon Godward married Cornelia Butler and had eight children.John Edward 1894(born out of wedlock)Harold, Theresa,Cornelia,Annie,Sid,May and Ethel. There were several changes of address details of which I would be happy to give you.I seem to recall that one address was Needle Row which seems very apt as Cornelia was a lace maker at the time.John had various occupations including a railroad labourer and cobbler.Unfortunatly he was a very heavy drinker and my lovely gran carried both  physical scars and horrific memories to her grave,as did her siblings. All of the boys died young and her mother died of malnutrition at only 42.The girls spent time in a catholic home  where  they were abused and beaten on a regular basis.Only May stayed in Nottingham,Connie(my gran)Theresa an Ethel lived in Doncaster. My nan, grandad and my father moved to Southampton   as grandad accepted a posting here.I lived with my Gran from the age of 3yrs and my life was much richer because of her and all my lovely great aunts who sadly are no longer alive.Ethel emigrated to New Zealand with her son Ronnie his wife and 2 children and Mays went to Canada and Australia(I think was Mays but not sure).Im sure there are still relatives in Nottingham but I need to look in my Grans book as quite a few.

I seem to recall that one address was Needle Row which seems very apt as Cornelia was a lace maker at the time.

Not sure if you know this already but Needle Row was in Milk Street in the area of Nottingham known as the Lace Market and at that time most people who lived there worked in that industry in some capacity.

See the link below for more info on the area & it's history.

Nottingham Lace was world renowned.

Hello, Chrismilton, Thank You for your reply . I have a fair amount of detail of Henry and Thyrza,  [Teresa] as they were my Grandmothers Parents. Teresa Agnes born 1878 She married William Edley a Sheffield Cutlery manufacturer. I have for some time been trying to find Thyrza's parents details. I have the marriage certificate stating Thryza's Father was Guliumus Jenkinson from Sligo .It is disputed whether its Jenkins or Jenkinson but no details of her Mother on the certificate. I'm a little puzzled re Annie,  Thryza's Mother in Law' I Understand  was Ann Spencer. I also have some detail that Cornelia and John had  a Son Harry 1891, John's birth 1895. I can go through my paperwork if you need anything. Appreciate your notes.  Would be nice to hear from you again if you have any details re the Jenkins.  Take Care Gales

Hi Gales, thank you so much for replying.I am unable to help re-Jenkins but will have a look amongst my grans things and see if there is anything that may be helpfull.I got a bit mixed up with some names as had been a while since my own research and after checking my grans brother was Harry not Harold.I do remember her telling me that her brothers died of cancer and that her grandmother was Irish and she had a few tales about her.I had also thought my gran told me her own father John was a cobbler but he was listed as a railway labourer in the census so I was pleased to see the post mentioning that there had been a cobbler after all and I had just got mixed up with who it was.Regards Christine.x
