ADDIS family in N.Z.

I am trying to trace my british roots through great grandparents Daniel Addis and Ellen Mcgrath.  Have traced Daniel,s birth to London but am having problems with Ellen, so maybe there are some N.Z. records which show when she arrived there.  She was born in Dublin around 1822 and married Daniel at St. Patricks Church in Auckland on March 1st. 1848.  Death cert. shows father as John Mcgrath, contractor.  Is there any way I can find how and when they arrived in N.Z.  Any help appreciated, thanks.

I know that this is a very basic answer but have you tried putting New Zealand genealogy into a search engine such as Google or try

There is a lot of interest in genealogy in NZ and I believe the government has some searchable websites but do not have my list here at the moment.

Hi Janet,
Many thanks for replying to my request, I will certainly try what you suggest. Irish records are difficult as a lot of them were destroyed by fire in the 1920's. This is why I am trying to trace Ellen's arrival in NZ and work back.

Hi, I am a New Zealander myself, and know of a few useful sites. If you have the name of the ship she came on then try http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ourstuff/PassengersAuckland.htm   
or if she came to Auckland you could try http://ouraucklandstuff.freeservers.com/
Both good sites, if neither help, let me know I'll give ya some more.
There are some good ones particularly if she came into Auckland.

Hi lalm, thanks a lot for your info, will certainly have a go. Unfortunately I have no other information other than the marriage date in Auckland. I have no idea when she arrived in N.Z. or by what means. I have a copy of her death certificate which gives father's name as John Mcgrath, contractor but that is all, so I don't know when the family arrived.  I have tried Irish immigration in Dublin but so far no luck, still will keep trying.

If you have access to a Family Research Centre (LDS church) you will find that they have an excell file listing passengers into NZ by name rather than ship. Not 100% complete but still worth a shot
