Lyn - Jorose gave this advice to somebody else on the Armed Forces board and I think it would work for you too - see what you think!! ;)

what other records there would be for him, he should appear in muster rolls and pay lists, (that link also mentions description books which list ' a description of each soldier, his age, place of birth, trade and service') and pension records, which include 'Admission books for pensions payable in the colonies, 1817-1875', so he may have still be recieving money after he emigrated, and that would be recorded.

Hi Annie
Sorry, I thought the holidays finished on Monday, but this week I have been inundated with visitors...seems many of my friends decided to take more than the long weekend and make it a decent break.  It has been fun, but I have been too busy to even get online.  And now I am reall tired, so will keep this brief & send you a PM tomorrow.
Thanks for all your help & interest.
Regards
Lyn

Hi JAM
Thanks for you response.....I didn't even know where Lundy's Lane was until I got your response.
I also received your PM, but I must have an early night, so I will respond to that tomorrow...Keep fingers crossed that I don't get interrupted by more visitors (See my post to Annie.)  I have a lot of catching up to do and will try to get to it tomorrow.
Thanks for your interest & offer of help.

Hi Lyn,
Just curious about the John Broe and Elizabeth Brown that you mentioned in your first post? Do you have any more information on them. I have the name Broe in my family tree but can't get back very far.
I know that there was a Henry Broe, a George Broe and an Eliza Broe and I think that their father was John. Any connection?
Regards
Catherine

Hi Catherine
I do not know anything much at all about the Broe line.
What I have was in research that a cousin did a few years back, with the help of some professional researchers.  However, I have only been able to locate a very small part of her research and sadly she passed awy before I started this lark, so I cannot ask her any of the dozens of questions I have.
As far as I have been able to make out, John Broe & Elizabeth Brown had at least 2 sons....Thomas b. Dec 1824 in Dublin Co (possibly at Rathfarnham), and possibly Patrick Matthew b.1823.
Thomas was a labourer when he enrolled with the 65th Regiment of Foot in 1842 and was posted to NZ, arriving in Aug 1846. Once in NZ the name seemed to become Brough.
Thomas had a son, John Maitland Brough born aboard the ship coming out, who married into my Wallace line.
That is about all I know.
Sorry that I can't be of more help.
Blessings
Lyn
