1851 Look Up Please - Clegg
« on: Friday 21 October 05 01:13 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for Elizabeth Clegg b1809 Middleton, Lancashire.

In 1861 she is living at 15 Longshot (?) Street, Stockport (St Thomas).

I'd be very grateful if someone could check the address in 1851 to see whether the family are there.

Thanks

Alyson

Thanks a lot for that Peter

It eliminates them as being my family so yes, it helps a lot!  It also helps me to sort out a bunch of baptisms I've found on IGI as there appears to be 2 families with the same named parents and similarly named/aged children, both in Stockport at the same time!

I need to find a James Clegg who is Clogger with a wife called Elizabeth and a daughter Elizabeth born about 1835.

Not proving an easy task with so little to go on

Thanks for your time

Alyson

Hi Peter

Might be better if I explain what I have which I should have done in the 1st place....apologies!

My 3xgrandmother Elizabeth Clegg married Benjamin Hill at Stockport St Marys on 1st Feb 1856.  Her father is stated as James Clegg, a Clogger

I have Elizabeth on all subsequent census from her marriage to her death in 1903 in Dukinfield and her birth year is consistent with 1836/1837, Hyde or Stockport.

I've located a baptism on IGI for 1835, Elizabeth at Stockport St Marys to parents James and Elizabeth but I don't know if this is the correct one without the entry being checked for an occupation for James.

So...I need to pinpoint a clogger called James Clegg who has a daughter called Elizabeth born about the right time frame.   Or just an Elizabeth aged about 4 in 1841 and 14 in 1851 in case her father was already deceased.

I've trawled the 1861 but there are no Cloggers called James Clegg that I can see so assume he was deceased by then!  I've checked the 1841 Lancashire name index which is now complete and they don't appear to be on that, the 1851 isn't yet complete but nothing so far, so all points to them still being in Cheshire

Elizabeth's baptism has now been located at Stockport St Mary in 1835.  Parents are James Clegg and Elizabeth, in addition there are 3 siblings....Mary Ann 1826, Jane 1830 and Sarah 1832

Can't see any of them in 51 anywhere but if anyone falls over them in 41, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks
