Hi Jo,

The 1841 /1851 census has them living at Stonebarrow in Stanton ST Gabriel . Multimap shows Stonebarrow Hill in St Gabriel , so I will investigate if I can find a farm there. It may also be worth contacting the National Trust who have an information shop on Stonebarrow Hill http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-goldencap/w-goldencap-facilities.htm

      Will keep you posted

Jo,

Looking at the census they lived at Stonebarrow, the next fam being Westhay , and the one after that being Gabriels. There is also a 16th century Stonebarrow Manor at the bottom of Stonebarrow Hill, so this may be the same place. You could try contacting them at http://www.stonebarrowmanor.co.uk/, they may have some history of the area

    Good Luck

      Roy.

P.s. We aren't related as far as I can tell as our Lucy's father was William Powell

Thanks for your help Roy - not knowing the area doesn't help but that give me a bit to be getting on with - I find it all so confusing but incredibly interesting.  I love Dorset and I'm quite fascinated to think that my family all came from there.

Thank you again.  Have a lovely Easter Break!!  Jo.
