it looks as though Jane may have married in SepQ 1844 but spouse is unavailable on Free BMD.

Thanks to all for helping,

This post is 18 months old , and it's great to find people still checking back . I had already found the 1851 census info once it became available on Ancestry , but I will now chase up the marriage of Jane , and see if that gives any further info

   Cheers

You did well to find the census info on Ancestry because I couldnt.

I am always looking at old posts that have NUL replies, because new info is coming online all the time and what couldnt be answered then may well be able to be answered now.

Couldn't agree more,

I keep revisiting my tree to try and fill in the gaps that , as you say, the information was not available at an earlier pass.

Thanks for all you help, and one day I hope to get down to Dorset to see the area itself

      Regards

Hi, reading all these comments they could tie in with my search but equally might not.

I am searching ing for Lucy Powell (who is somehow connected to Sebilla Powell but I don't know how).  Lucy married William Hoskins Barnes.  They had Lucy Ellen and William Henry.  I believe the daughter, Lucy Ellen, married Edward Gollop?? I'm struggling with records as I don't seem to find anything concrete so help would be appreciated.  All this happened in Charmouth although Lucy Ellen (daughter) was born in Lyme Regis??

Hi Jo,

I wrote to you in mid Feb via Ancestry, did you not receive the email?? Have you got the following information as I may be able to help 1) the marriage certificate of Lucy Powell to William Barnes, if so what was Lucy’s fathers name and occupation?
Have you found Lucy in the 1851 census ?

     Regards

          Roy

Hi Roy, I do remember you writing to me and that was probably the last time I was actively looking - I seem to go through phases - I haven't looked up the marriage certificate for Lucy and William - looking at your details you have a Lucy in your list so I guess they could be connected (and Lucy did call her daughter Lucy Ellen - I see a sister named Ellen but I guess they were not uncommon names at that time.)  I'm particularly keen to find out Lucy's connection with Sebilla Powell as I know Lucy had a sampler on her kitchen wall made by Sebilla but I can't see them living in the same family.  I will see if I can order the marriage certificate - it's funny how with some people in your tree you receive numerous mails and the information seems to come easily and with others you seem to come across a brick wall with nothing.  I'll see what I can find out.  Thanks again Roy.  Jo.

Roy, you're are complete star - I'm obviously not very good at this!!  I'd looked at the 1841 census but couldn't see Lucy and then noticed that Sebilla died and lost the thread.  I guess that would explain why Lucy had the sampler made by Sebilla on her kitchen wall all those years ago.

Do you have any idea how I could find out the name of the farm they lived on - it looks like 'Shocks' Farm? in Stanton St Gabriel but I can't find it on the web and assume it no longer exists.  Any ideas where to find such info?    Are we related?

I'm so grateful for your help Roy.  Thank you.

Jo.
