MIs for Loftus - St Leonard's church
« on: Tuesday 18 October 05 13:12 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have access to these MIs?
I'd like to have the inscription for Arthur Cavill, buried 23 May 1876 Aged 17 Loftus St Leonard
Many thanks

Diana,
If no-one responds to this, I'll be visiting Loftus next week (looking for Browns) so could have a look for you. If someone could come up with a location it would make it a bit easier though

Cheers, RuthieB

Me again RuthieB!
Was just re-reading your reply and wondered if by some longshot your Browns had anything to do with Alexander Brown, born East Cottingwith (a cordwainer, widower) living with his children in Brotton in 1891?  The Arthur Cavill I'm looking for was his nephew.

Hi Diana,
My (older) Browns were mostly born in West/St Helens Auckland and moved down with the Ironstone industry. In 1881 my ggg grandfather Thomas Lumsdon Brown was living with the family at Skinningrove; a couple of his sons stayed in the Loftus area. I think all my Brown men had surnames as a second Christian name and I don't think we got as far as Brotton (although I used to live in Skelton myself at one time).
Off 'oop north' tomorrow - bit of a  drive from here in west Wales - might be able to catch up with an e-mail from the local library in Guisborough to let you know if I've been successful.
Watch this space!

Hi Diana
Have looked through the M.I's from ClevelandFHS for Loftus St. Leonard, unfortunately no Cavill listed, perhaps not legible

Hi Jen
That's very kind of you.  I think I got the info off the NBI:
Arthur Cavill, buried 23 May 1876 Aged 17 Loftus St Leonard
but the exact date may be wrong.  He certainly died in May 1876 though.

Happy new year!
