I have a transcript of GI's from St Leonards, Loftus, but I'm afraid your ancestor (or anything like his name) is not recorded,

I'm also keen to get an MI from St Leonard's Loftus and would be very grateful if anybody could assist.

It's for John Garbutt and the NBI gives: 31 Mar 1897  John GARBUTT  73    Loftus, St Leonard, Yorks.

My ancestor John was born c.1822 in Kirkby Fleetham and this looks a likely match.

Thanks

Steven

I'm afraid there are no Garbutts listed in the St Leonard's MIs (published by Cleveland Family History Society). By the late 19th Century the churchyard was full and a new cemetery was opened at the east end of Loftus for use by all churches and chapels. As far as I know, no transcriptions have been made for this.

Just wondering if you have any information for burial in 1797 for Hannah Rodgers (Rogers) wife of Thomas Rodgers.  Burial is in the parish records for Loftus.  Family were stonemasons, so may be a headstone.

Many thanks Val :)

Hi Val,

No MI for Ro(d)gers at St. Leonard's, Loftus, however there are a couple for Rogers at nearby St. Michael's, Liverton, which may be of interest:

In loving memory of Annie the beloved wife of Thomas John Rogers of Loftus who died August 25th 1908 aged 43 years, 'Her end was peace'.  Also the above named Thomas John Rogers who died April 1st 1932 aged 70 years

In memory of Joseph Reogers who died May 5th 1868 aged 74 years.  Also Jane wife of the above who died August 9th 1908 aged 98 years

Kind regards, Barbara  :)

Thanks Barbara for looking for me.  Just thought I would give it a shot.  Have always wondered if  the Rogers from Liverton were connected to mine, but never found anything to connect them.  Will just keep searching.

Kind regards Val   ???
