Owen family in Hook Norton 1901
« on: Monday 17 October 05 15:52 BST (UK) »
hello,

I am trying to find the family of a Thomas Richard Owen, born June 1901 in Hook Norton. His father kept a pub in nearby South Newington called the Wickham Arms. I think it is now named the Duck on the Pond.

All a bit vague I'm afraid, but any help would be great.

Thanks,

Cholton

Hi Chorlton,
The census for 1901 was taken in March so your Thomas won't show. I had a look to see if there was any owens nearby and came across the pub Wyckham Arms in south Newington but it was ran by Henry Mobbs who was 68 and a widow but his daughter was there Laura age 31 could it be that it was Thomas's mother who was from the Wyckham arms and father was from Hook Norton... There is a  family of Owens going back generations there.

Do you have any idea who Thomas's parents are? That might help
Found this birth entry

Close What can I do with information from this database?
You can use the information from this record to order a birth, marriage, or death certificate from the GRO.

More information below
BIRTH
OWEN Thomas Richard E Sep Quarter 1901 Banbury Northamptonshire Oxfordshire Warwickshire Volume 3a Page 1043

Banbury district covers Hook Norton

You can use the information from this record to order a birth,  certificate from the GRO.

Thomas Owen  30   Engine fitter    b. Chipping Norton,
Rosina Owen 24          b.  Hempton, Wife
Catherine Constance Owen 2 b.  Hook Norton,  Daughter

Living Garrett st, Hook Norton...

These could be likely candidates for Thomas's parents

Then I found the only other Owen family in Hook Norton

Samuel Owen 45 widow  Inn keeper b. Newbridge on Wye, South Wales
Alice May Owen 15 dau   b. Finsbury, Northamptonshire.

Now I wouldn't really like to speculate as to which is right... The best thing to do is to get Thomas's birth cert and take it from there. If you have any other information it might help sort out where he fits in.

All the best Angela
