Hi

Does anyone remember the Orphanage in Ober Road, Brockenhurst, maybe you could askm parents/grandparents, my mother went there and she thinks it was called Marden can anyone confirm this.  If it was demolished does anyone remember?  all details would be greatly received.

I know a bit of Ober Road as I am tracing the history of a house close by and the owners owned Ober Farm on that road, can you tell me a bit more about it and I will see if I can help

Hi thanks for that, my mum was at the Orphanage in 1937 i think, and was there for many years, I have a photo of her at a tea party on the Lawn but thats about all we have, so really just some general info about the place or anything would be so greatly received.  Mum is in her late 70's and I think it would help.  Many many thanks for your time and trouble, oh and should you need it my mums name was Patricia Pearce , maybe you could find where the old records went? I don't know, i will leave it to you, thanks

I know the area as its only very small and I am tracing the history of the family who owned the majot house there, I don't know if I will recognise it but let me try and ask a few people who may be able to help, your best hope for any records would be the Hampshire records office at Winchester.
Funny you live in the Midlands as the family who owned the large house I am tracing owned the collieries in Nottinghamshire.

Regards

Is the house referred to in this thread Ober House? I am interested in that house and would love to hear something of its history.

I was in the Marden Orphange and remember when we moved to Hawkslease, Chapel Lane, Lyndhurst.  Some of us girls had to carry cleaning materials and walk from Marden to Hawklease.  The older girls scrubbed the place out ready for the move over.  I have a photo of all the girls in the orphanage in 1949 and the matron, miss Taylor and a couple of others.  My name was Pat Richards (How I hated that name and now use Patricia) my sisters were also in the orphange.  I remember poor little Maureen Such and many other girs.

Welcome to rootschat, Patricia.

harveyh has not used rootschat for a few months, but may still be monitoring the posts.  A coincidence that his Mother was a Patricia, but some years before you.
