Hi Jean

Bit late reading this one, but I have to say your descriptions of his places of birth intrigued me into having an investigation.

Having looked at the images, may I suggest?
1861 England census – Forton
1871 England census – Preen (not Brecon, I did wonder about Bicton (close to Forton and M Bridge), but this one may have to remain a mystery – also see comments about 1851 below.
1881 England census – Shropshire
1891 England census – Shropshire
1901 England census – Montford Bridge

Forton (Heath) and Montford Bridge lie essentially next door to each other, just north west of Shrewsbury. You didn’t mention 1891 in your list; let me know if you want the details from it.

As regards 1851, I’m afraid that’s a bit more difficult. The best one I can see is a John Lloyd that again is listed as being born Preen, like the 1871. The only Preen I know in Shropshire is Church Preen, but that is about 10 miles south east of Shrewsbury. Anyway the location of Mock Hall, Fitz is very close to Forton Heath, and Montford Bridge is just down the road. See what you think.

Ref: HO107/1991/234 Page 17
Mock Hall, Fitz (between Forton Heath and Grafton)

John Pugh – Head – U – 66 – Farmer of 120 acres employing 3 men and 1 boy – Shropshire, Pontesbury
Mary Pugh – Sister – U – 60 – Housekeeper – Shropshire, Pontesbury
Mary Pebody – Visitor – U – 63 – Annuitant – Staffordshire, Gonsall
John Lloyd – Servant – U – 23 – Waggoner – Shropshire, Preen
John Gough – Servant – U – 17 – Ag Lab – Shropshire, Fitz
James Lloyd – Servant – 12 – Waggoners Boy – Shropshire, Montford

Note:
Mary Pebody has an ‘x’ in the column for ‘Whether Blind, or Deaf-and-Dumb column’. No other marks on the page, so it could actually relate to what it’s supposed to!

I’d be interested in what you think and I’ll try and have a look for more stuff over the next few days.

Regards
John
