Willington, Flintshire
« on: Saturday 15 October 05 18:46 BST (UK) »
Could someone point me in the right direction so to speak ;D

I'm trying to find Willington, sub district of Hanmer.
I have read Genuki pages and Willington is a township of Hanmer but I cannot place it on a map, I've tried google maps & multimap, and I cannot find it on my Ordernance Survey maps either.

Is it near Bronington, as I have two families who say they are living in both areas & I can find Bronington no problem :-\
So where is Willington ???

If you search for Willington Cross on http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newsearch.srf?
you will find that name which may just be a farm or house or road near to both Hanmer and Bronington
This seems a good bet

I've just spotted a Wallington by Bangor-is-y-coed quite close. This doesn't even show in a search on streetmap?!!

Thanks Peterej  ;D

The Willington Cross looks the best bet, going to take a run down there, and have a look around.

Many thanks

now I don't wish to confuse the issue and I still think my first thought is correct but 'Googling' I have found reference to Willington in Cheshire and others around the country. I have also found that Willington Cross appears to be a house - see http://digidol.llgc.org.uk/METS/ING00001/ingleby?start=121
It is no.136 and it looks very impressive!!

I hope you find what you are looking for

Thanks again Peterej ;D

I think your first thoughts will prove to be correct.

I'm looking at a Birth certificate for Bronington, and a Death certificate for Willington, both are in the Sub-District of Hanmer. The registration District of Ellesmere.

Hope to get down there next week & take some pictures.
Regards

Just in case you are still looking for Hanmer, go to multimap.com and you will find it on A539 between Eglwy Cross and Penley.     The town is just off  the hyway and Hanmer Mere (lake) is also there.     The local church is St. Chads and my family line, Penlington, were from the area.     If you have any problems, get back to me at spuggles25@msn.com.           dcg.
