Hello Liz
can anyone tell me where Newington would be? It doesn't seem to be listed anywhere on the website. Is it Middlesex or somewhere else?
Newington is in Surrey (south-east London)

Unless you mean Newington Green, - which is in North London.

Romilly.

Yes, good point, Romilly.   ;)

Newington Green (on the Islington/Hackney border) and its neighbour Stoke Newington (in Hackney) are completely separate from Newington, Surrey, which had its own registration district (Newington St Mary) until 1869, when it was redesignated as part of Southwark.

I don't know which place I mean, just on the list of births there is a place called Newington, volume reference each time it is mentioned seems to be 1d followed by the page number.  Marylebone is 1a, Holborn and Islington Bc, Whitechapel and Bethnal Green 1c, etc.  I thought perhaps as it seems to be surrounded by the other old Middlesex places it might be in Middlesex too.

Liz

ps.  If it is in Middlesex, it just means I have another list of possible birth records for g.grandad!

Liz, that's the registration district which is the Surrey one.  There has never been a Middlesex registration district called Newington; Stoke Newington and Newington Green are in the Hackney and Islington registration districts respectively.

So ignore North London - Newington, Surrey is what you are looking for.

OK, that means I need to ignore it as I only want Middlesex.  Thanks for the information.
