Hi Bodger
There are a number of Bacon Families in Belper, however they do not all have Belper
Roots, so you need to be very careful if you take any info from Patron Submitted items
on the IGI. Yours are Nailer's so I think you will eventually find they have been here
for hundreds of years.
I was concerned that George born abt 1855 does not appear to be on the 1871 Census,
by 1881 he is married and in Spring Bank, Bingley, Yorks. There does not appear to be
a Birth Registration for him in 1855 either. Have you any of this information?
I have been to the Library today and extracted the following:-
1841 Census HO 107/180/5 Pg 39 The Butts, Belper
Bacon Edward 35 Nailer Derbyshire
" Sarah 30 "
" Mary 12 Cotton Spinner Derbyshire
" George 10 " Picker Derbyshire (this was a terrible job)
" John 8 "
" Edwin 6 "
" Joseph 3 "
1851 Census Lander Lane, Belper
Bacon Edward 46 Nail Maker Belper
" Sarah wife 41 Codnor
" John son 18 Carder at Cotton Factory Belper
" Edwin son 15 Nailer "
" Hannah dau 9 Scholar "
" Eliza dau 4 " "
The Butts, Lander Lane and Bloods Bank are all in the same area of Belper.

The following are also from the 1851 Census. I give details of any Bacon in the area
about the same age as Edward in the hope they may be Brothers or at least relations.
Pg 633 Sch 27 Bloods Bank
Bacon Ferdinand 48 Frame Work Knitter & Lodging House Keeper Belper
Hannah wife 53 Trimmer of Hosiery "
" Ann dau 18 " " "
Beresford Wm Nephew 9 Factory Boy "
" Ann Niece 18 " Girl "
Barnes Charles cousin 29 Ag. Laborer "
Pg 636 Sch 52
Bacon Joseph 52 Nail Maker Belper
" Rebecca 54 Derby
Pg 672 Sch 2 Gutter (this is further away on Nottingham Road)
Bacon Joseph 52 Iron Turner Belper
" Elizabeth wife 50 "
" James son 26 Nail Maker "
" Elizabeth dau 14 Cotton Spinner "
" Sarah " 11 " " "
" Mary " 7 Scholar "
" Hannah " 4 " "
Pg 675 Sch 25
Bacon Thomas 41 Iron Turner Belper
" Monica wife 27 Seamstress "
" Joseph son 1 "
Think Ferdinand was married twice 1. 13.2.1832 to Lydia Beresford
2. 28.10.1850 Hannah Berrisford
On second marriage states his father was John Bacon. He may not be one of yours
because although in the right area, he was a Frame Work Knitter, however he was
born in Belper.
