It was quite common to give a name eg Edward, who had died, to a later child.

The Hopkinson in Ann I would have expected to be her Mother's maiden name, however
as with everyting this does not always follow.

I would have expected a Nailing Family - Bacon to have married into other such
families as in Melbourne, Attenborough and Ride.  They kept the trade very much to
themselves.
You had to be born a Nailer to become a Nailer, they charged anyone who was not
a great deal of money!!

By the way their other occupation was poaching, and quite a few were transported.

I to am researching the Melbourne family. It's funny how you said that "nailing" families married each other so to speak.

I have a  James Melbourne in my tree, who married a Thurza Jackson. Thurza being the daughter of Samuel Jackson, another nailer, who I believe James was an apprentice to.
Basford, Bassford, Faulkner, Higgins, Jacques, Jephcote, Lacey, Mawby, Melbourne,McCormack, McCormick, O'Brien, Stokes, Shuter, Voss, Wall, Wheaton, Woodier.
