1841/51 look up in Awbridge near Romsey please
« on: Wednesday 12 October 05 19:42 BST (UK) »
Thomas Heathcote Tragett lived at Awbridge Danes, Awbridge near Romsey for many years.    I have the family in the 1861 census and up to 1901.     They seem to have been there earlier judging from the birth places of the children.  If anyone has access to the 1841 and 51 census records I would be most grateful.
Thomas was born c 1799 in Newington Surrey.  He married Louisa Lane (born c 1808) in 1825 in Leamington Warwickshire.
Many thanks
Andrea

Your thomas had itchy feet by the look of it.

HO 107/ 400/12 fol 36

Louisa Tragett 30y, IN county  "Ind" (? Independent means as occupation)
Louisa Tragett 19y IN county
Robert Tragett 6y, OUT County

Plus what appears to be a household of a dozen servants?

Andrea,

Im a direct descendant of TH Tragett and would be interested in finding out some more details of your findings.
TH Tragett was a Reverend, ordained in 1823. There was also some military connections in the family - I'm still trying to work that out. maybe the out of country bit was a stint in the subcontinent?
He took over ownership of Awebridge Danes in 1825 (sadly now out of the family...).
Another point of interest - his daugther Louisa, married into the Austen family (i.e. Jane Austen) so Im following up that connection too.
Pleas elet me know if you have anything else interesting to share?
Thanks, Rosie.

Dear Rosie
Welcome to rootschat.   I did the research for Thomas Tragett for a friend and have handed it on so do not have it to hand.  I have tried to contact her without success to ask if I can give you her details.   You must be related somehow!      I could easily redo it if you have not already got the census records and I also have a copy of Crockford for 1865 which gives a brief biography of his clerical career.
I will get back to you later.
Andrea

I have now spoken to my friend who is very happy to make contact with you.  She is sure you will be related.   She also knows of the Jane Austen connection - via a brother.   I will send you her email address via a personal message.   You can send to those by clicking on the grey icon under the name on the left of the post.  It means that no-one else can see a private email.  When you next log on you should see a note at the top right of the page saying that you have a messgae.  Just click on it.
