Hi,
I am trying to trace any ancestors of Catherine JUDGE, nee MADDEN, born abt 1856 in Bradford. To date I have only managed to find her in the 1881 Census. The details I have are:
1881 – Bradford (RG11/4449, Folio 33, Page 14)
Patrick JUDGE, Lodger (Hd), 36, Mason, Ross County - Ireland
*Cale JUDGE, Wf, 25, ,Bradford – Yorks
Mary E JUDGE, Dau, 5, Scholar, Bradford – Yorks
Andrew JUDGE, Son, 3, , Bradford – Yorks
Sarah E JUDGE, Dau, 1, , Bradford – Yorks
*I have no idea why this is “Cale”, but it is the Catherine JUDGE, nee MADDEN, I’m looking for.
They were married in January 1876, in Bradford. They also had a son in 1882, called Lawrence. Brothers Lawrence and Andrew are “Lodgers” on the 1901 Census (RG13/4257, Folio 62, Page 1).
Catherine’s father was Lawrence MADDEN (marriage cert), but I have no idea who her mother was. It is possible that Lawrence originally came from Ireland.
Could anyone be kind enough to look for Catherine MADDEN on the 1871 and 1861 Census for me, please?
If there is also a Patrick BREHENY (or JUDGE) that was on the 1871 or 1861 Census that was born abt 1845, Ross County, Ireland, that would be a bonus. According to the marriage certificate, Patrick’s father was called Arthur BREHENY.
(Note: The name BREHENY was “Anglicised’” to JUDGE later.)
