Hi Joe,

Thanks for your interest.

Initially I am looking for George Gillatt married to Alice Brundish probably between 1900 and 1920.

I believe they were resident in the Scunthorpe area.

Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks Martin

hi Martin

Are you still on the hunt for Gillatts from the Glanford, Scunthorpe, etc area?

The house I live in is built on land (in the village of Winteringham, N Lincs) once owned by a Mary Gillatt and her husband John, and I have an old document, dated 1888, relating to these Gillatts which came with the legal papers when we bought the house.  We've actually got it framed as it's a lovely old document with seals.  Their male children named on it are: John, Samuel, Godfrey, Richard and Thomas - there were also daughters but they all died young.

Mary and John Gillatt (and various children) are buried in our local churchyard.  I keep meaning to get the document transcribed, so perhaps if you're interested in knowing more, it might spur me on!!  ;)

Hi Clare,

Yes still looking.

I have a family ancestor George Henry Gillatt who I believe was born in Gainsborough area c1884.

Doubtful there is any close link but you never know.

Regards

Martin, I've got quite a lot on 'my' Gillatts (even though I'm no relation), and checking backwards from your George Henry Gillatt, born Q1, 1884, reg district Gainsborough, it looks like George's grandfather, Henry, is the brother of 'my' John Gillatt of Winteringham.  They all seem to originate from East Butterwick, Lincs (reg district Glanford Brigg).

In 1871, George's uncle, (another) Henry, is staying with John and Mary Gillatt and family in Winteringham, working as an apprentice to John, who's a carpenter/joiner.

Hope this makes sense!  Not sure what you already have on George Henry, but I've got census pages, etc which I can send to you offboard from this branch of the family (ie the one I've adopted!!).

best wishes
Clare

Hi Clare
I am a descendent of the John/Mary Gillatt mentioned.  If you go to http://snookyhouse.com/f4352.htm#f243654386
you will see them listed--and their children--and connections to an enormous numbers of Gillatts! I haven't got all their dates of death yet.

In my research, I was researching Godfrey Gillatt at Winteringham--looking for his address and more info.  So if you have details, that would be great.
He was my great grandfather--and my grandfather moved from the Glandford Brigg area to Scunthorpe
Somehow we can get info to each other/part copies of the 1888 document, etc.
