Hi Steve,  thanks for your message. Yes I was a natural blonde at tne time and now I'm fair.  Brenda, Mona and myself all had our own rooms in the NAAFI block and if I remember rightly, Mary lived down the road.  I am 70 now and still feel 19 as I was then, working in the NAAFI. Time flies when you're having fun (so they say).
My hobbies are sunbathing (weather permitting), walking my dog and being out in the fresh air, especially in my garden. What do you do in your spare time Steve? Look forward to hearing from you.

I have recently discovered Roots Chat. As I was stationed at Haydock 1957 to 1965 I have some answers to questions regarding personel. Would like to hear from anyone interested.

My grandad Sgt. Douglas Smith was stationed at Haydock in January 1959 when he was killed in a motorbike accident in the North East, between Darlington and Stockton.
I have the letter of condolence by his C.O.  R(Ron). Brickwood.

Would love to know if you or any others remember him or the accident. He hadn't been at Haydock that long I dont think.

hi ianidario, just seen your reply ref your grandad, i do remember about the accident but did not know him myself and of course iremember sq ldr ron brickwood he was a good co. it was a happy unit and we all got on well, of coursethe place is now closed down  in 1971, and is now a estate. i have fond mems of haydock  it was one of the best stations i served on in 22 years. it must have been a great loss to all . all the best,  frank migy

Thanks for getting back and apologies for late reply, I just received all the info re my Grandad's service records so can work out where he was through his career.  He was a Teleprinter Op/ Tele II.

Seems hard to imagine he signed up 14/09/1937 and at the time of his death his engagement was to serve until 1972 (his 55th birthday!) He would have seen some changes had he lived that long that's for sure!

I was having a nosey at RAF Haydock, have found so many names that I know, I was stationed at Haydock  May 1961 to March 1963 when I married and went to Malta. More memories of the early sixties . . . another couple of names came to me - members of  the Accounts Office:

Sgt Balding and Cpl Cornelius.  Anyone remember them? 

Wish I could remember the name of O/C Accts - was it Flt LT Jones?

From the General Office, I recall a lovely black Cpl who used bring cake for us all.  Think his first name was Martin.

Hi lynn, how lovely to hear from you, names, W / O Breeze I used to stay with his wife, as she hated being on her own, they had a big alsatian dog, who let any one in, I even got breakfast in bed and not go to work before 10 am. Squadron leader Nolan C/O,one name I have tried to remember,she kept in touch after I left, she was from liverpool, in admin, wasnt you lynn was it? The memory is so bad these days, Sgt Mansell was in charge p b x  we had various cpls Eastwood one. Pat Haynes and Husband Bob ( I think) they came in from Aden the first couple to be posted together, they went to thorny as he became an Interpreter, they lived in m/ qs. Jenny Booth, came from Sheffield, she was the smallest WRAF, met her in lincoln, my fault we didnt keep in touch.  Ann price, she married Terry Allen, Elenor Lesley ( Elf) Jean Lilliecrap, only about 20 more to think of faces i can see, fellas Tony Liptrot, George Blackburn,in from Gan, Margaret mgackie , she married Fred ?so many faces, I will dig.out photos may jog our rusty memories, the one name from h q mccormick, she was I think local WRAF, Happy Days, Tuppence, and Maria medic I think Madge Fenny Dave Askew, these are some of the few photos I have, its so strange how we meet up again through others, least expected, I did love my time at Haydock, the people in the village as well, always had to allow time for a chat,  so nice to keep in touch thank you hope to hear again Veronica

Hi VOLAU VENT QUEEN  - I've just come across your post mentioning Ann Glenn.  I was 'Glennies' cousin and was stationed at Haydock from 1955 - 1956.  Remember her stamping up and down the NAAFI lounge reciting the poem about Pete the Piddling pup.  Had us all in stitches.  We lost touch and I have often wondered what happened to her (think she emigrated to Australia while I was in Cyprus). I Had a fantastic time at Haydock and was on the same watch as Val Hamer.  It was my first posting after training and a great introduction to life in the RAF.  Got quite a few pics of my time there.  A couple of names that come immediately to mind: Jacqui Cardno and Babs Hamilton.  Regards
