Hi everybody,

Greetings from the sunny Orkney Isles.

Thanks Lynn for your last photo. I do remember you, but my memory isn't as good as it was. I think the girl in your photo worked in the NAAFI and she was called Sylvia ?. I think she came from north Wales, jog any memories ?.

Hope everybody is getting old gracefully and in good health.

It would be nice to know where everybody eventually settled after their RAF days were over, let's hear from you all.

hi jim yes it would be great to know how and where all the old contacts are these days im in contact with one or two  ken dodds and i see each other from timeto time he lives  in st helens not far from where i live  and of course im in contact lynn and jacquie in the usa and pat in aus  we have lost one or two of course very sad in deed  but we are all getting on a bit now thats life i would to hear from anybody who caresto make contact in the future keep in touch jim all the best  frank migy 2304026  ps we want more photos from you all

I agree with Jim; think that young lady in the photo was a NAAFI employeee - not in my memory catalogue of WRAF personnel. I am so pleased to have found Frank (and Irene), we are enjoying their company on a regular basis. Have not heard from Pat; I suspect she has her hands full - hope all is well with her. Phone message from Alan(Muriel) Gardner; they are away on hols.

I wonder how many of you would recognise Slag Lane if you saw it now> !!  ???There are traffic lights at the junction with the East Lancs; which is not as busy as it was in the old days because the M62 takes most of the heavy stuff directly in/out of Queen's Drive in the 'pool.

The slag heap is laid flat and there are new houses everywhere; including all over the domestic site.
 Nothing remains but memories!! Clipsley Lane has not changed much; the High School is still near the bottom of Slag lane. There is also a by-pass from the Ashton traffic lights down behind the Huntsman to the Ship Inn at Blackbrrok. These 2 pubs have not changed at all!!  Cheers Ken

Hi everyone, especially Lynn,
Ken and Frank. I wish that I'd asked the wherabouts of you all a bit earlier. I've just returned from motoring down to visit my grandchildren in Preston and had I known you weren't too far away, could've possibly dropped by to say hello. Not to worry though, I normally motor down every year or so, so who knows - we may meet yet.

I see that Ken probably agrees with me about the girl in the photo with you Lynn, a shame you can't remember her surname, it may come to you yet though.

For Frank - another name which springs to mind is Duncan Ashcroft, he worked with you as a trade assistant. I remember him because he went on detachment to Germany, got into some bother and I was his escort when he went in front of the CO when he got back to Haydock, ring any bells ?.

I acted as an escort  many times because I was in the families office down the corridor near to the COs office.

Look forward to hear from you guys, and if your ever up this far north you'd be made very welcome.

hi jim thanks for your email , duncan ashcroft? now who was he? and you say he worked for me cant remember him at all iremember a chap called diggle who was good at woodwork he done a few jobs with mr glover the gardner remember the greenhouse further down from sick qrts? iv looked back on some of the pages and it seams iv missed out on someof the talk back so if anyone would like to come to me again i would be pleased to hear from you and i know ken would be to keep in touch regards to all frank migy

I remember Duncan Ashcroft - AC -plonk - but I recall he was a likeable lad who seemed to get caught for all sorts of jobs! So you have family in Preston Jim; after Haydock Preston was my other happiest time. I was the recruiting officer for Preston, Blackpool and Blackburn in the early 80's, my office was on Fishergate opposite that little church. It's all gone now - Debenham's I think. Come on you Haydockites - what was the name of the one and only hotel in town? how many remember?

My old man was Sgt Policeman at RAF haydock in 1962 or there abouts. Jim Makin was his name. Ilived onthe camp for about 4 years until he and myu family were osted to Cyprus and I stayed behind. later I joined up and served in Aden along with my old man. Iwas only a teenager at the time but i still remember the place quite well. I have a few photo's of the old man around somewhere if anyo9ne wants them. He died in 2010 at lytham St annes.

hi dave good to hear from you i served at haydock with your dad; in fact we were good mates jim went to spain to live and i spent some holdays with him many times; we sold up in the uk and and lived in spain 11 years jim for some reason went back to the uk and we kept in touch for a time but lost touch after a year maybe ?? then just month or so ago we heard from kay your sister and the sad news that jim had passed away in hospital at blackpool . keep in touch ihave photos i would like you to have of your dad ^(*)
