Yes, it was Pam Smith in the pictures with Jan, not me. I was taking the pictures.
When did you do this passive defense exercise? I don't remember anything like that when we were there and I certainly would have remembered if someone had been hurt, as you were. What a thing to have happen, eh?
OK now - wasn't there a hatch where visitors had to sign in on the left hand side  when you walked into HQ?  If so, was that your office?
I don't remember the name Babs Best but we did have 2 local WRAFs in Accounting while I was there.  One was from Norris Green in Liverpool - she went on to OTC - and the other was a blondish girl who left from somewhere local to Haydock and she left to get married.
Yes, Andy Richards is the person I was thinking of.  He was a "lad and a half" he was. Chased anything in a skirt. LOL!
The WO i/c Mess while we were there was RAF. I don't remember any female WO there and I used to audit their books every quarter. The name Ward doesn't ring any bells though you could be right.  Jan would have known if that was the right name, I'm sure but .... oh well.
I met and marrried one of the chaps working for the USAF MMG on our base at RAF Wildenrath in 1966 - and we're retired now, too.

hello sun shine girl the blonde girl you men in accounts is the girl that married my wifes brother who sadly died some years ago heart attack she has remarried and we meet at times at our homes for a meal and chat sounds very nice where you are we had 11years in spain and enjoyed much the same type of weather and conditions as you but theres no place like home when you get older am i trying to convince myself  talk again later regards to all at your end frank & irene

So that young lady married your brother, eh?  Well, I'm not sure she'll remember me but give her my regards next time you see her. 
Hey, do you remember the thick nylon ski slope the CO used to have put up on the slag heap for ski practise and the night someone forgot to take it down and the thing got scorched?  You could hear the CO's fury when he walked through the front door the next morning. (Well, his STAMMERED fury, put it that way. Remember how he stammered? Sqn Ldr Pollock was his name.)  He was a nice man but that morning, everyone made themselves scarce as it'd taken months for him to con that nylon ski slope out of his CO.
I'm still trying to place you. Were you there when the girls raided the men's block and didn't get caught but the guys, trying to make a return raid got caught and were all put up on charge?

no sun shine bab didnt marry my brother but my wifes brother  i remember sl pollock allright hewas a great co i worked for the station warrant officer and was the discip nco on the station mind you i didnt do thejob i was to soft with the airmen and girls of course the raf police sgt makin was also ok we used to spend more time messing with cars on and off the station then we did with discip matters why make life difficult and iwas doing an andy richards too  no names no pack drill wow what a time we all had at nwcc  i bet you know a story or two as well al the best  talk again later  if you have time regards fran migy

Yes, the "discipline" as you say was not high profile at Haydock. Mind you, there wasn't really much needed, was there? Couldn't help but smile over your saying you didn't do much police work while you were there.  Janet didn't do much GO work and I didn't do much Acctg work either for the first year.  We were too heavily involved in playing one sport or another and since our Flt Sgt was a PTI, she'd find sall sorts of places to take us so we could play. Jan and I both played netball for Signals Command and we went to tennis and badminton championships. We finally got tired of living out of suitcases and decided to do some work! <grin> .)
Those definitely were "the good old days" and ones I remember with much fondness. I loved RAF Hayock, couldn't stand my next posting (Innsworth) but had a ball in Germany, too.

what postings did i get well after haydock none  i was out in to the cold of chivvy st  after 21 years in RAF but getting 100% dis pen andthe RAF pen i didn't need to work to earn a living and didn't for time 12 months after leaving i met the nurse who looked after me in dock and the rest is history Irene is 17 years younger then i and she had her career in front of her so carried on i did start work and became the pears manager of an intern at co Bendix you may have heard of them but of course we have both retied now oh i could go on for ages   but i was at biggin hill Kent  padgate lances  west Kirby deanship  in Egypt cm London  HQ Sig's cent  warton bur tonwood  and many more i wont bore you any longer all the best talk again later regards frank

Ah well, there you go, you see. If you hadn't fallen off that roof at Haydock, you'd never have met your wife though that's a heck of a way to fall for a woman, Frank! <grin>
Haydock was my first posting and it's a toss up as to which I liked best, that or my last posting, Wildenrath. My husband and I are going back to Wildenrath this year. It's a test track for Seimens trains now but the Army are using the MQ's for their guys. All the buildings have been razed. We're just going to look around and relive old memories .... pretty much as Jan and I did when we went back to Haydock in '83 and they'd razed all the buildings there.

hi jan thanks for reply i didnt know that the place had been razed  hope you enjoy your trip to the uk if you have time you must come and visit us your welcome it would be great to see you both if you think you make it i can giv you all the gen location etc i had a tirp to haydock some time ago and found it rather sad  no tip no nothing just new houses  even the sports field built on  of course you cant liv in the past time goes on and we have to except it i shall never forget the good times i had there and all the nice folk i met at haydock there were some sad happenings during my nine years there anyway hope to hat again soon regards to all frank irene
