Sgt. ATHERTON, MoD Police. Would have been Sgt. ATHERTON, Air Ministry Constabulary in those days MoD Police never came about until about 1970. They do have a Museum at their training base at Wethersfield, Essex maybe a letter to them may help trace him.

Interesting reading, we as a family moved to Haydock in 1956 and lived in 12, Avery Square, AMQ's. I understand that my father was a bit of a stickler on the discip side W/o Dolphin. Sadly he died in 2007, but he got a fair old whack from Auntie Betty pension wise! I left Haydock in 1960 and joined up as a 'Plumber'. My father was posted to RAF Changi in mid 1960, he retired in 1962. I can recall most of the names referred to in that period plus some others. I went to Haydock Sec Mod school down in the village. We used to play up on the Squarts Croft as the slag heap at the back of the camp was known. Interesting times...... There was the Rice family, Ranson's, Kerr's, McIntyre's, Bryce's. Cannot recall the CO's name but his son was stone deaf but a good laugh. My last memory of the camp was getting on the bus to go to RAF St Athans in May 1960. Thanks for the memories

Strange full circle I now live in Spain - one of my brothers old school pals lives in the new Avery Square. He also has a house in Spain not far from me.
