Hi Bongaree and all other "Haydockees"

Glad to hear you've got some sunshine down there.

Weather up here in the Orkney Isles is very bad at the moment. We had recorded wind speeds last night of 138 mph, loads of damage but thankfully I survived with only 1 willow tree blown over, mind you, it was the wife's pride and joy. Will have to replace it come the spring !.

Best wishes from Orkney and I hope you all have a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Best regards

Jim Monkman

So there are live people out in the wild!!, Best wishes to you Pat and you Jim; did you recognise the 3 stoggies? Ken Dodds, Frank Migy and Alan Gardner, the three of us have gone over every week of every year from 62-66. Had lunch with Frank (and Irene) on Wednesday; they only live a few miles from me. Sorry about your weather Jim; Pat please send some sunshine..

Here's to a happy new year to us all.. Ken D

Hi Geordielad
Thank you for telling me about rootschat.com. I have enjoyed surfing through the 34 pages on RAF Haydock.
As you will remember I arrived at NWCC RAF Haydock around 1964/1965 from RAF Innsworth where  I was a Junior Technician Accounts Clerk working in the
'Glasshouse' at Longlevens Gloucester where teams of us kept the paper records of personnel accounts before 'computerisation'. I hated it! I remember being offered the chance to get away from RAF Innsworth and the dingy flat I was living in by accepting a posting to NWCC RAF Haydock. It was when all the WRAF staff were posted out.
My wife Doris (of 51 years) and I had a wonderful  couple of years at RAF Haydock. We lived in a modernised AMQ at Fazakerley for a while and then after a bit 'pulling strings' moved into an AMQ on base immediately opposite the NAAFI. My next door neighbour was a certain Sgt Winterbottom who wsa a chef in the airmen's mess I think. played football for the station so I remember WO Craig.
I was also a member of a folk group one of whom was a telecoms/PABX cpl who had served in Africa (RAF Eastleigh) and enjoyed some success with a flok group called The Countrymen. Under his influence we called ourselves The New Countrymen.  We had a great time trying our luck around the Workmens Clubs. Nearly all the blogs on these pages are before my time at RAF Haydock.  Apart from you Ken the only familiar name to me is Tony Campbell. Fondest regards Colin

Welcome to the site Colin; I hope it helps you to remember other friends from those days. Im sure you aagree with a lot of us on this site, that Haydock days were very special.

I am still in touch with Tony Campbell by phone; he normally phones me around this time of year.

(I am also known on this site as Vagabond - due to problems with my Geordielad registration - which was only a temp blip.

All the best Ken

Good Day to you Steve; I recall the blond head (and youthful looks) - the quiet one at 53 SU!! Reg Bamford was in the bunk next door to me - of 53 SU fame - he had many a tale to tell about his nights down at the Legion!

Have you seen the site since you left? both sides of Slag Lane are full of housing; they have traffic signals at the junction with the East Lancs at long last.  Hope this finds you well - what stories can you recall from those days? Best Wishes Ken D

Hi Vagabond,
Have passed the old site in the last few years, all gone like nearly everywhere else
