Just found this site thanks to swo man migy! hi Frank ;>) <grin>
I was one of those telephonists at North West Central who, more often than I liked, heard the footsteps and saw the shadows in that long corridor on night shift, don't remember being aided by the radio op's though! ;>)
I was stationed there end of 1958 until I left on Marriage March 1960
I have tried for years to contact my 2 bridesmaids Joyce Unsworth and Patricia Cross nee Dickinson.
Joyce came from Wigan and Pat Gt Yarmouth, anyone remember them please?
Others were Eileen McLaughlin, Cpl Peter Devlin he built a car from a kit  between raf & wraf blocks
I also remember the Raf block getting struck by lightning, one of the lads had a radio on windowsil and it got hit in a storm.
Some of the chaps formed a skiffle group, and played quite a good Lonnie Donegan with a tea chest for a double bass - my favourite on NAFFI Juke Box was Russ Conway!
Any other telephonistd at the same time as me remember?

This email is for Jimbo and Swo-man, who both chatted with Red Setter.  Swo-man you were asking how Red Setter (Jan O'Dell) was since you hadn't heard from her in a while.  I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but we lost Jan on May 1st following a 3 year battle with breast cancer.  I will miss her sorely as we had been friends since 1964, when we were both at Haydock.

Hello SWO-man.
Thanks for replying to my posting about Jan. However, it wasn't Jan and I in the pictures at the Spider's Web. It was Pam, our other room-mate. How did you know Jan? Wher you at Haydock when we were there? If so, where d, on the pictures.
How did you know Jan?  Were you at Haydock when we were and, if so, where did you work?
As for Jan, she was one terrific girl. Always laughing and getting up to mischief. We remained friends through the years, even though distance separated us and, even at the end, when she was really ill, she still laughed and made jokes. I'm coming home in September and plan to spend some time with her four boys and their families.
Again, thanks for replying.  Jan was a "mate and a half" to me and I shall miss her terribly.

Hi Frank!
Then you were at Haydock when Jan and I were though I don't remember you.  Where was the SWO's office - across from HQ, by the slag heap? The only person I remember from that side of the parade ground was Cpl Andy (can't remember his last name.  He was Police). I worked in Accounting, across the hall from where Jan worked in General Office.
Sorry to hear about your breaking your back.  What on earth were you doing on the roof?
Did you ever go to the Thursday night dances?  Jan and I were on the committee and sat at the door, taking the money.
You don't, by any chance, remember the name of the WO in charge of the Mess in 64-65, do you?  Jan and I adored that man (spoiled us rotten, he did) and his was the one name we couldn't remember. Put your thinking cap on anyway.
I live in Sarasota, Florida now - God's little heaven, boasting the second best beach in the world on Siesta Key.  Sctually, it's not sand though, it's pure white quartz and the gulf waters there gets up to 89-90F - like bath water!
I'm coming home late August, probably for the last time, as I have a brother in Australia who's not getting any younger.
Anyway, if you can think of the Mess SWO's name, please let me know, won't you?
Jacqui
