I am descended from the Block family of Streatham.

My GGGf is John Block, GGf Sidney Block and Gm was Louise Block. My Gt Aunt May Block has just died aged 99!

Is this the family you are looking for?

Hi David

From my research there appear to be a few Block family's in Streatham, but to know if we are related I need to know at least some dates for the Blocks in your tree if you wouldn't mind? I have Blocks with all of the first names you mentioned in my tree but as I haven't traced that side of my family back to far I don't have to much info to go on.
Anything more you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Catherine.

Catherine

John Block was born about 1835. He worked as a blacksmith. I have his death certificate dated 4th May 1891. It says he was a labourer and at the time of his death living in Mitcham.

His wife was Louisa Evans. They were living in Wimbledon when their son Sidney was born. I have his birth certificate dated 16th November 1873.

Sidney married Elizabeth Heavens in 1901. They lived in Streatham and then Tooting. Their 3 children were Louisa (5th Jan 1903), John 1904, and May (1st May 1907).

They both died soon after. May was adopted by her aunt Caroline in Tooting. The others may have been taken into care - we are still investigating their background.

Louisa was my grandmother.
