Marriage
« on: Tuesday 04 October 05 23:16 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me with the marriage of John Pryce Bennett and Mary (Ann) Davies, born in St Harmon and Llangurig.  He was born in 1891.  She was a servant and got pregnant by him.

His family were 'well off' and when he said he'd marry her, they disowned him.  The baby was born in Merthyr Tidfil but am not sure where they married.  I have looked up all marriages on bmd for Merthyr T., from Mar 1890 to Dec 1892 but haven't come across anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

There is a marriage of John Pryce Bennett with a Mary Davies on the same page - you'd have to get the certificate to prove they married eachother - in Merthyr Tydfil in the March Quarter of 1889 the reference is Vol. 11a Page 691

How romantic, how tragic

Thanks Wendi

I found it.  and unless my 'informant' (the grandson of these two) is mis-informed, it makes for some pretty interesting reading as he was supposed to marry her because of the baby and it seems the baby was born in 1891.  Unless she was expecting earlier and lost it.

Hi Seviad

One mystery solved, it opens up another one.  That's family history research for you ;)  Glad you got the certificate anyway
