Joseph Wright, Artist of Derbyshire

My ggggrandmother, Mary Bassano (nee Waterfield) was the sitter
in Joseph Wright's 1781 portrait of MARIA AND HER DOG SILVIO which now
hangs in the Derby Museum.

Does anyone have the family tree of Joseph Wright?

There are Wrights married to other Bassano family members after this
date and I wonder if there is a connection.

YES - he features in the family tree - but I do have some quirky bits
with parts of his line.

Thanks, Gaye.  My interest is in the photographer side, rather than the BASSANO family, although I realize that there was a BASSANO family in Derby.  I hope to compile a biography for Alexander Bassano at some stage, and would appreciate any information that you have on him.

Thanks for that Brett - I had read about the Kitchener pic
and did get a copy of his self portrait.

Very interesting lot these Bassanos - the original 5 brothers came from
Italy where they worked for the Doge - at the invitation of Henry VIII
and lived rather well in England down through the generations.
All pretty much married well too!    Fascinating tree I'm pulling
together.

I found this snippet on an older version of the biography from the NPG site, which may be of interest to you:

Baptised Alessandro Bassano and a direct descendant of the Duc de Bassano, secretary to Napoleon, the photographer later anglicised his name and married an English woman, Adelaide Lancaster, and had three children.

publicist, was born at Dijon. He gained the title of Duc de Bassano.
He held the office of Minister of Napoleon I

The photographer Alexander/Alessandro Bassano b.1829, son of Clement Bassano b.1798, fishmonger, and Elizabeth Barnes (1800-1893) I am sure, was part of the greater Italian Bassano family - but as I say, I have a few links to iron out yet.
