Selina GIFFIN/Henry RIDER - Bishops Stortford

appreciate any info on the above. Selina Giffin(en) b. 1843 to Benjamin & Ann Giffin.

Married Henry Rider (b. 1841) in 1861. In 1881 census both are mentioned in Grays Inn Workhouse. By 1901 census Selina is widowed with 3 sons, living in Islington.

Have discovered quite a bit about the Riders, Henrys Father George was Innkeeper of the Crown Inn, Hockerill, as was his Father before him.

However, I can find very little on the Giffins.  Can anyone help please,   thanks.

Ann Giffin  Dau  12  Scholar  BS.
Celina Giffin  Dau  7  Scholar  BS.

All born in county except Elizabeth.

By 1851 Sam and Elizabeth were living  at the Cross Keys Bar House, Hockerill Road, BS. Sam shown as a labourer
and with five children, slightly different to the 1841 crop.

In 1861, 18 year old Selina was a Housemaid for Curate William Merilees, wife Mary Emma, son William and stepson Alfred Edward Coulson (+ 2 other servants - Cook and Nurse) RG9/809 Folio 73 Page 11 - 25 Windhill, Bishops Stortford, Herts

Hi Debra,

I have established that Benjamin Giffin was born at Bishops Stortford on 26th March 1803 and  baptised on 29th May 1803.  His parents were William and Ann.

This has been a fascinating search involving at least two William and Ann families.   I will send details to you by PM.
