This one in a local churchyard:
The world is a town of busy streets
A marketplace where all men meet
If life was a bargain money could buy
      The poor wouldn't live
       And the rich wouldn't die.

But my favourite is in a Northampton church:

Here lies the daughter of Wm Hanbury, gent. of Kelmarsh in the county of Northampton
And wife to John Harvey Thursby II

What sort of woman she was, the last day will determine.
                         -------------------------------

It doesn't mention her name! She is supposed to have been a bit too friendly with David Garrick, who used to visit the family.

Bridge: GT Catworth, Hunts, and surrounding area
French: Blisworth,  and W. Northants

Came across these two today at Gorton Cemetery in Manchester

The RAF one is about 8 feet tall and is in fantastic condition - Lt Samuel Davison DCM, killed while flying in Kent 1918.

And only a head plots away was this ruined "Belle Vue War Memorial" a lot of the names cannot be read.

I took this photo at St Stephen's Church, Hamilton, Tasmania, Australia. Pioneer grave of 8 year old who died in a fire at her Sunday School.

It states:
Here lieth the mortal remains of Sarah Lane died 3rd Nov.r 1844 aged 8 years.  This little inoffensive child to sunday school had tred, but sad to tell was burnt to death within the house of God.
Cheers

I found this one when looking through an Index book for the Graveyard of Turriff:

"In memory of James Duff Duncan (Rabbitie) an eccentric charater whose body was recovered from the Deveron near Muiresk House 3 Apr. 1896. 'Aye livin".

With a bit of extra research, I found he was James George Duff Duncan. He was 65 years old when he died and was a Hawker.
His date of death reads as:
"1896 between February Eleventh and April Third in the Deveron (River) between Muiresk House and Rosehall, Turriff".

It would be interesting to find who erected the stone. It not your typically late Victorian inscription. Whoever heard of an eccentric Victorian?
