Caledonian Buildings Mossend
« on: Tuesday 04 October 05 16:32 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know where I can get hold of occupancy lists for the Caledonian Railway Buildings in Mossend? or Caledonian railway workers records.

I need to find out who lived there and when.

My Grandfather was born there as his family worked on the railway but need more info on his father who also lived there but was not married to my Ggrandma.

Can anyone help?

Just found this site and was scrolling through posts.

EWS railways currently own Caledonian buildings at Motherwell, and have premises at Mossend, if you tell me your grandfathers name maybe i can ask around for you.

EWS has a web site, www.ews-railway.co.uk

Thanks for the website, will have a look. My grandfather was born on Jan 12, 1901 George Patterson Russell. His uncle William Russell worked for the Caledonian Railway as a signalman and I believe his father Mr (John/George?) Patterson also lived nearby although his mother and father never were together. Any information would be appreciated.

http://www.anesfhs.org.uk/downloads/publist.pdf includes various publications and guides to sources for various occupations including railwaymen.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
