Hi Simmo,

Welcome to Rootschat.

http://www.dundee.ac.uk/archives/genuki/ANS/CouparAngus/welcome.htm

The GENUKI page above gives more detail but it looks like Coupar Angus is designated as Angus but lies mostly in Perthshire.

Confused?  I am ???

Cheers,
Pam

Hi Simmo,

Would your MOON family have a connection to Blair Athol or Longforgan, Perthshire?

I was told that Angus and Perthshire should be regarded as one and the same.

Cheers
Geoff

Hello geoff
My Moons do indeed come from Perthshire.I have James Moon born Errol 1841 M Grace Symington 1863.James' Parents were John Moon and Elizabeth or Betsy Anderson they Married 1841 Errol.Ive not been able to find John Moons birth place or parents for sure but he could have been born in Longforgan to Alexander Moon and Elizabeth Irons. If you have any info that would be very welcome

Hi Simmo,

Sorry I'm so long getting back to you, Bit unwell of late, Ok now thought.

Alexnder MOON & Elizabeth IRONS are my 4X great grandparents. They did have a son John, he was born 1812 at LLongforgan. The sixth child of nine.

On the 26th January 1841 he married Elizabeth ANDERSON at Kilspindie. This place is 3 miles from Errol and about 6 from Longforgan.

Cheers
Geoff

I only have 4 children to this couple but there has to be more of them registered somewhere.
The 1st I have is James b 1841 & then a 10 year gap to the next.

I'll send you a personal message.

Back to your first question - Coupar Angus was one of many parishes that straddled a county boundary - Angus and Perthshire. The Local Government (Scotland) Act 1889 sought to tidy up these matters by shifting parish and county boundaries about. That took effect a few years later. Coupar Angus OPRs and civil registration documents were listed under Angus until 1892. From 1893, it was officially transferred to Perthshire.
