Cenus 1861 and 1871
« on: Tuesday 04 October 05 00:31 BST (UK) »
Hi Could somebody help me find out if the family mentioned were in York for either of the 1861 or 1871 Census

Joseph Busby Born c.1811 maybe Althorp Warwickshire
Ann Busby Born Northumberland ? (that's all I know)
George Busby Born 1848 Middlesex (or Westminster) London may still have been living with them.

The other children would have left home or married by then.

They had a daughter married and living in York...that's why I need to find out if they stayed in York or moved back to where one of the Mother and Father came from!

thank you,
jennirosa

Hi
In 1861 a George Busby born Middlesex 1848 was in an Asylum School in Chelsea. This was a school for ex Army Soliders. A school rather than a hospital.
Could this be your George Busby do you think.

HI Lizziedrip!   :)

The only thing I have on George Busby is 1851 Census says he was Born Middlesex, London 1848
Then I found him by accident 1881 Census (IGI) in York Fulford Gate, Fulford in the Army (Like his Dad used to be) TS Major 16 Lancers.
Then last week when I could look at Ancestory I found him again in York (Seems to fit with the London Birth) Superintendent of Industrial Boys School.
He's married with a family. This census says he was born St. John's, Wesminster 1847.

I've applied to get copies of Joseph's Military stuff from Nat. Archives! If this Joseph Busby born Althorp, Warwickshire is the right one. Someone at rootschat found it for me!. So here's hoping I find out something interesting!
I don't know anything about this family. The only thing I know from what my mother told me was one of their daughters Lucy Busby, was my Great Grandmother.  (Which I have found out alot about her and my Bond family)

I thought if I could get something on Joseph and Ann Busby (at least) I could piece together where they were 1861 and 1871 census. As Joseph had left the army in 1850. And was on a Pension. Chelsea I guess?
Lucy and Joseph Bond married in York 1859 (Her father is mentioned on the Certificate. )Don't know if they stayed in York or went to Warwickshire or Northumberland where Ann was born (I don't even know her maiden name?)

That's all I can tell you until the papers turn up from U.K.

Thanks for finding that for me! Not sure, what do you think now!

Jenni

It sound to me like the George at the Scool in Chelsea could be the same one all the details fit and with the military connection as well.
Let me know what you find out from Joseph Army papers.
Could he have died by 1861?

 :) Hi Lizziedrip!

I don't really know when he died. Now my Bond family is coming together. The Busby lot is the next headache.
They moved around alot more with the Army connection, I guess. Nobody in the family seems to know anything about them.

Maybe the Army papers will give me a clue!
I'll just have to hang around and wait for them to arrive!

Looking at the archives site it appears that Joseph was in the Invalid detachment and also had records of him in the Chelsea hospital.
ref WO 97/1206/46 are these the records you have sent for.
