1841 Census Lookup - COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 02 October 05 11:07 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

Can anyone do a lookup for me?  I'm looking for William & Eleanor Binskin.  I believe them to be living in St Margaret's area in Rochester, Kent.  Eleanor Binskin was born in 1795.

Sorry it's not a lot to go on, but if you don't ask - you never know!!!

Kind regards
English Jen.

Hi Jen,
I'm afraid that William and Eleanor are proving extremely illusive in 1841, I've been through St Margarets and St Nicholas and can't spot them. There's a William Binskin living in Maidstone, but he's married to a Susannah, so no use to you really. Did they have any children that you know of, that might help locate them. Otherwise all I can suggest is you have a look on the cityark website, all of the parish records of Rochester St Margarets ore online, so you may be able to find some useful information there.
Sorry I can't help anymore,
xx Carol

Hi Carol

Thank you so much for looking.  I said it was a long shot didn't I!!!

I have tried searching the parish records, but so far I haven't found anything.

Thanks again for trying.
Kind regards

Hi Casalguidi

That looks like them .... she must have been chopping and changing her name about!!!  Thank you very much for looking at the 1851 .... I don't think I'd ever have made that connection.

Carol, can I have the details of the 1841 please.   ;D

Kind regards

Hi Jen,
Having dived back into Maidstone 1841, I've found the right William for you, and momentarily lost the one that I had yesterday. (Am I going senile in my old age?).

ref HO107 490-09 folio 38 page 31: Medway Street, Maidstone
William Binskin age 45 waterman
Eleanor do age 45
Mary do age 13
Edward Holness age 67 labourer
all born in county

and living next door:
John Binskin age 45 Army
Mary do age 45
Charlotte do age 12
Mary do age 10
all born in county

.... Have just discovered that the William that I found yesterday was on the 1851 census....here he is:
ref HO107 1617a folio 30 page 30: Week Street, Maidstone
William Binskin head mar age 4? (could be 0 or 6) coffee and lodging house keeper born Maidstone
Susannah do wife mar age 37 born Maidstone
William H do son age 2 born do
Edwin W do son age 5 months born do

So there are two William Binskins in Maidstone in 1851, one being a few years older than the other, and could just about be father and son.
Hope this hasn't confused you too much.

Hi Jen,
Couldn't spot William (who later married Susannah) on the 1841 census, maybe he was away at sea. Here are a few more to add to your collection:
all West Maidstone:

ref HO107 490-08 folio 9 page 9: Week Street
Sarah Binskin age 20 dress maker born in county
(residing with John Vinten and family)

ref HO107 490-08 folio 17 page 4: Wharf Lane
Robert Dickinson age 61 beer seller
Sarah do age 65
Sarah do age 32 F S
William Binskin age 5
Henry Binskin age 3
all born in county

ref HO107 490-08 folio 18 page 5: Week Street
Kezia Dickinson age 25
Jemima Binskin age 30
Sarah Binskin age 1
all born in county

ref HO107 490-08 folio 29 page 27: Bone Alley
John Binskin age 35 waterman
Sarah do age 30
both born in county

ref HO107 490-10 folio 38 (not clear) page 36:Brunswick Street
Jane Binskin age 55 laundress (not born in county)
Amelia do age 25 laundress
Henry do age 20 tailor
Elizabeth do age 15 dress maker
(Amelia, Henry and Elizabeth born in county)

ref HO107 490-11 folio 44 page 1: St Peters Street
Henry Binskin age 55 mariner
Margaret do age 45
both born in county

I'm sure that some of these will be connected to your family.
