Maclure/McLure - Sleat, Skye
« Reply #108 on: Tuesday 22 January 13 01:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone,
I am a decendant of Alexander Maclure who married Margaret Buchanan. They both died before 1866.
Child of Alexander McLure and Margaret Buchanan is:

Donald McLure, born Abt. 1789 in Sleat, Isle of Skye; died May 20, 1866 in Duisdlebeg, Sleat, Isle of Skye.

He married Christy Stewart April 05, 1814 in Sleat, Isle of Skye.  She was born Abt. 1791 in Sleat, Isle of Skye, and died Aft. 1866.
Children of Donald and Christy were Margaret, Malcolm, Anne, Mary.

Malcolm married Christina MacGillivray and went on to have a troop of children.

Descendants from the family made their way to Australia, South Africa and possibly Canada/US. Please contact me if you have a link. :)

Hello everyone,

I don't have McLure links, but I have links to Sleat via my MacDonalds and was wondering if anyone could make any connection.

My 4x Great Grandfather Donald (Daniel) MacDonald was born in Paisley in 1795 and died in Calligary in 1879. He married three times to Jean Pollock in 1819, Margaret MacPherson in 1851 and Margaret Nicholson in 1861.

He had a half brother Niel MacDonald was born in Strath or Sleat and died in Ardvasar in 1874 and was married to Anne MacDonald.

Their mutual father was Alexander MacDonald (born circa 1740-1760) who married Kate McKinnon on Skye (date unknown) before moving to Renfrewshire and marrying Agnes Fletcher. I don't know where he died, whether back in Skye or in the lowlands.
Gr-Gr-Gr Grandparents and relevant areas: MacDonald (Skye/Renfrewshire/Glasgow), Johnstone (Inverness/Ayr/Glasgow), MacPherson (Ross/Glasgow), Irvine (Ireland/Glasgow), Berrie (Dunkeld/Glasgow), Biggar (Paisley/Glasgow), Bradley (Ireland/Glasgow), McCorkindale (Argyll/Glasgow), Hardie (Ireland/Greenock), Scott (Greenock) , Kane (Ireland), Maguire (Ireland), McLarty (Argyll/Greenock), McLean (Argyll/Greenock), Petrie (Fife/Dundee/Greenock), Graham (Argyll/Greenock).

Hi Debbie,

A few years ago my brother John McClure was in touch with you regarding our family.  You had sent him the information that you had, but John passed away and I am trying to continue his work on the family information.  I have not found the information that you sent him.  So, here is what I have, maybe you can fill in the blanks. All the information is what I found in John's paperwork.

Farquher McClure (1747-?) m. Christina Mcpherson
Children:  Rodrick (1770-1883), Neil (1771-?), Malcolm (1772-?)(I think this is the Malcolm you mentioned in your post to him as a relative of yours)

Rodrick (1770- 1883) m. Ann ? (1766-?)
Children:  Neil (1788-1851), John (1790-?), Donald (1790-?), Ewin (1801-?), Malcolm (1801-1887), ? (1796-1841), ? (1802-1841?)

Neil McLure (1788-1851) m. Margaret MacGillivrary (1st wife) (1790-1838)
Children:  Mary (1790), Alexander (1814), Donald (1818), Neil (1820), Archibald (1823), Donald W. (1824) (My gggrandfather)), James (1826), Anne (1827), John (1830)

Neil McLure m. Margaret MacGillivrary (2nd wife) (1811-1874)
Children: Margaret, John

Donald W. McClure (1824-9/8/1891 Died Logansport Indiana) M. Mary L. Meck (1835-1867)
Children:  Susanah Elizabeth (Lizzie) McClure (1855-1944), George William (1858-1929),
Mary Ellen McClure (1860-1861), Isabella Jane (Jennie) McClure (1866-1956), John Edward McClure (1867-1937)

The information on Donald W. McClure life and children, grandchildren, and so on I have.  I will be happy to share with you if you would like.

In one of the post to John you stated you had 15 pages of information on my family, I would love to share with you.

This is my first time using this board, so any help with getting you the information would be nice.

Hi Jacky,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you!  I was in Vegas for the last week, and for some reason, I did not receive a notification of your post.  Thankfully my Cousin Helen in Australia seen it, and she alerted me to it.   :)
I was sorry to hear that John had passed away.  I remember corresponding with him several years ago, he lived in L.A. didn't he?

Malcolm McLure son of Farquhar & Christina is my relative on the line.  However, I have never found any proof that Farquhar had further sons - Rodrick 1770 and Neil 1771.
So if there is a paper trail in Johns work that leads to them, I would love to see it.  :)

Also, I have never found the parents of your Neil (b abt 1788) as he died before 1851, and was unable to verify his parents from a death cert.

Do you know what source John had that linked Neil and his siblings to Rodrick McLure?

Roderick was a common name in the Glenelg branch of the McLures/MacLeors.  A huge amount of research was done on that line by Donald Keith Dewar.  But neither Donald or I was able to link the Sleat families with the Glenelg families.

I just checked my database, and the descendant report of Neil McLure is indeed 15 pages of info, complete with all sources. So PM me your main email address, and I will send you the info.

I'm so glad that you are carrying on the research.
Debbie

Hi DVM, do you happen to have your Janet's death cert?  I don't have her in my database, but if you could give me her parents names, I will look again for anything I might have.  :)

Sadly I do not. I have come up against a brick wall as regards Janet McLure, but Malcolm MacKinnon's parents may have been Donald MacKinnon and Catherine McDonald according to Malcolm's death certificate. That is all I have at this point in time.
