...good news you are in the right area. The Presbyterian church was one of the first built ....it  was rebuilt in 1822, and  later named  Duntocher West United Free Church  in 1977.    It is straight across from Village Tavern, which was then the West end  pub.       Way back then along the main street,  there was a butchers, cobblers, drapers, newsagents,  2 public houses  and 3 wine and spirit merchants.  I would think you are on the right road.   
The Filshie brother's owned a few pubs,  I'm sure the Milton lnn Dumbarton is owned by one of the Filshies (01389761401)  they maybe able to help.    Myyran x
