Thanks for the info.  The year of birth for Mary Ann on my part is a guess so you could possibly have the correct lady in templemore.

I didn't know there were records back to 1844.  How / Where were you able to access them?  I may be able to further the McColgan line from those also.

I have a Thomas Nelis married to Sarah Anne Donnelly or Doherty living in Ballynagard with a daughter Mary baptised 16 Dec 1885.  Could be Mary Anne's brother...

Also, I think Hugh Smith was from this area also.  I have a number of Smiths living in Hollybush & Culmore around the same time that Ellen & Hugh's daugher was baptised.  Hollybush & Culmore is on the border between Donegal & Derry.  I will be organising to view the records in Iskaheen / Muff over the next few weeks so I will see if I can track them all down.

Regards
Marie

Marie,
I got the information from the web site "Emerald Ancestors". I have commissioned a search for the McColgans by "Family Ulster.co." but they have not come back to me yet. If they do I'll pass on any information I get. It was either that or go across and spend some time searching. I'm in England but am a Scot , born just a mile or so from Duntocher. I have a photograph of Ellen with Hugh. Not sure of the date but I would guess a few years after they were married. If you want, I could get it to you.

I would love to see the photo if that would be possible.  Also if you are interested in any of the information I have or get in my further research I could print it off and post it to you if you wish.   You can send me a personal message with the details.  McColgan is a name which is extremely popular in the area so there is a lot of info.  Your researchers may be having some problems as a result of this.

I live quite close to the area so am able to do local research and have also enquired from relatives etc. My Gran has been able to provide me with an enormous amount of info to start with which was great. I will also enquire of the records at St Columba's Church Templemore.  It is defnitely a new line of research.

I will further up the query on Hugh Smith and let you know if I find anything.

Thanks
Marie

Hi
Williamina (Ina) Kirkwood was my aunt, she was born in 1916 and died in 1999, she was the daughter of William Kirkwood and Sophia Stables who had six daughters and one son, they moved to Duntocher from Garscadden  Village in 1927 to a new house in Carleith Avenue.
The Children were : Margaret 1913-2010, Agnes 1914-1987, Williamina 1916-1999, Robert 1919-1986, Sophia (Bunty) 1922-1941, Adelia Jaques (Ada) 1924-1991 and Helen 1927-2009

I hope this is helpful.

Graeme

Hi Debbie: Did your Kirkwoods come from Toll cross, Shetteleston area?

Hi,
I'm afraid I don't have much on the Kirkwoods.
My James Stewart, born abt. 1909 Duntocher, married Ina Williamina Kirkwood.
James was the son of William Stewart and Flora Murray.  I would love to find out more about Ina, if you recognize her?

Debbie

Hi Graeme!  And welcome to Rootschat
Thanks for the names and dates of all the Kirkwood family, that is great  ;D

So which one out of the list was your parent?   Your cousin Helen C. is on here, she will no doubt reply as soon as she sees you post!

Were William and Sophia both born in Scotland?  Have you traced their families?

Nice to meet you!

Hi Debbie

Yes both William and Sophia were born in Scotland and I have traced both families back to the mid 18th century. My mother was Helen Kirkwood.

Cheers

Graeme

Hi all,

Meechan/O'Neill from Duntocher.

I'm back again, but this time I'm researching the above families.  My Great Grandfather was Terence Meechan(36) marreid to Agnes O'Neill (34).  According to the1901 Census the stayed at 36 New St Duntocher.  Their Children were; Hugh(14), Rosina(12), Henry(10?), Charles(8?) & Sarah(5).

If anyone has any info on Terence or Agnes also known as Sarah I would be really gratefull  Margaretsarah
