hi Helen,  I'm sure I'm on to the same Stewart's perhaps a different generation!  I have a Birth Certificate here of a Thomas Murray Stewart born on July 10Th 1893 in old Kilpatrick Dumbartonshire.   His father was William Stewart (Riveter) his Mother was Flora Stewart M.S. Murray.  I also have a Marriage certificate of the same Thomas Murray Stewart which took place on 26Th (I think) November 1913.  (Same parents as above for Thomas) usual residence; Jennyhouse Duntocher.  Spouse reads Sarah Meechan (who was my Grandmother) usual residence looks like 12 Buchanan Street Dalmuir.  I believe they lived at one point in 64 Douglas st Partick.  I was confused myself with Sissy Sweeney, I thought the Sissy could be Sarah but puzzled with "Sweeney".  This site is amazing, and I came on it just by typing up "Jennyhouse"....Amazing.  I have a wee bit info but would prefer contacting you by e mail if possible. here's mine;  Kind Regards.  Margaret.  :)

Hi Margaret, hi Helen,

Sarah Meechan?  That is a new one to me as well.  I have grown up with my Mam's family stories, and Tommy's wife was always referred to as Sissy Sweeney.  I agree that Sissy is probably a nickname for Sarah.  But how does the Sweeney fit in?  Could it be that Sarah was maried previously?  Margaret, is she noted to be a spinster on the marriage cert?
The other thing could be a parentage thing.  You know how great our family was for giving people their proper names!  My Mum was alsways known as Gretta Stewart - despite being raised by Charlie Coyle - same thing for Margaret Stewart.  Not a soul in the family ever used the name Addison for her
Don't you love a good mystery!

Here's a couple of pictures of Tommy.  Mum absolutely adored him, and the stories of his abilities with animals are legendary

Hi again, no, Sarah Meechan was only 17 when she married Thomas and yes, spinster (yarn worker) was written in the marriage certificate. The photos are great!! I beleive Thomas was in the scottish rifles,  am I correct?  The other photo, Thomas is second left with no bunnet on; am I correct? I just can't beleive I've actually seen these photo, I can't thank you enough for this.  What about Thomas did he perhaps re marry later on?  Sarah Meechan did!! What family did Thomas have?

Hi Margaret Sarah,  - and Hi cousin Deb :-)
Well I don't know about you Debbie, but I am stunned, completely stunned!!  My whole life I grew up hearing about Uncle Tommy & Sissy Sweeney,
I still don't know what to make of it, althought Margaret Sarah you have undeniable proof that it is indeed his marriage.  Which probably explains why neither Debbie or I could find his marriage.
I have written all this here for the benefit of forum readers, because it's hardly fair for them not to be privvy to outcomes of topics, but I will take you up on the offer of more private evidence now, as I'm sure Debbie will too, unless she's already beat me to it.  :-)

hello again everyon e, its been a long time since ive been on this site but find it fascinating as always. at presrn father joe mills has me setting up a new website for st mary's church and it would be a crying shame not to include an archive section , the history of st marys parish  is very much the history of the people of duntocher , the site is still in its infancy and the archive section is only days old, in fact its still needing total approval of the parich council to allow things to be taken forward. but i beleif in striking while the iron is hot hence in hope that it gets the full nod can i prime you good folk if you have any old photos of the church or old movie clips or whatever even special stories then can you maybe dig them out in anticpation. the site has its own email address and if youve anyhting you might feel is worthy of being included you can email that address..in the intermim maybe check it out its at
