Druids Head pub in Wolverhampton

Hi,

I have reason to believe that an ancestor of mine, Thomas Billingsley,  was a victualler/landlord in a pub in Wolverhampton during the late 18th/early 19th centuries although i never knew where.

I have recent found out that according to the Staffordshire General & Commerical Directory of 1818 i've found a possible match. It states that Thomas Billingsley was the victualler at the Druid's Head public house at 39 North Street in Wolverhampton.

What i am particularly interested in, if its possible to find out, is a list of the landlords of this pub, and the years of their 'reign' so to speak.

Any help would be appreciated.

All pubs around Wolverhampton seemed to be owned by William Butler & Co later the Mitchells & Butler brewery (M & B) at one time so it might be worth writing to them to see if they can tell you anything. I know it doesn't exist any more. It probably got knocked down when they built the Civic Centre or has been renamed

I think they are now Wolverhampton and Dudley Breweries PLC - their address is Albany House, Albany Road, Wolverhampton

I've got a book of photos of old pubs in Wolverhampton but it isn't in there - sorry

Hi Paula.  I'm not much help I'm afraid but I also have a (few) Thomas Billingsley at about that time, though I think he was a farm labourer in Worfield nearby.  Would be interesting to share Billingsley info. Rgds Andy Billingsley.

Is your Thomas Billingsley married to an Elizabeth and did they have a daughter Mary (b 1811) in Worfield.

Did you  make any progress on Thomas? I'm trying to find out more about his second marriage after Ann Barnett. I think the same Thomas (widower) married a Jane Turner(Widow) at St Peter's Wolverhampton in 1804. Jane may be a relative of mine.
