Passengers to USA in 1850s

The 1900 census for Fond du Lac Wisconsin shows Jarvis immigrating in 1854. I haven't checked his brother. Did you know that you can use census records to help you find immigration and
naturalization years for an ancestor.?

The 1900, 1910 ,1920 and 1930 census identify citizenship status, with notations showing the individual was an Alien, or had started the Naturalization process or had his final
papers. The year of immigration is also shown. 1920 also nicely provides a year of naturalization.

There are great clues in the 1870 census too! If your ancestor has a check mark in the  column "Male Citizens of the United States of twenty-one years of age and upwards"  you
have a clue that naturalization took place before 1870 :-)

Armed with these years (be careful to add a year or two on either side of what is said in the census records) you can start your search a bit more easily

I looked at the immigration records on Ancestry today and found a William Breeze, age 27, leaving Liverpool 21 Apr 1851 on the Conqueror.  I must admit, I didn't look at all of the entries they gave, but this one had the highest ranking of parameters that I gave.  It may be yours.  Also, I have found a William Breeze in Onondaga County New York with family in 1860 and in Cayuga County New York in 1880 with the same family.  I cannot find him in 1870.  Maybe he took a trip back to England during that time.  The 1880 census you can view at <www.familysearch.org>.  Here is the 1860 transcription------Genealiza

The 1880 census shows John's birthplace as NY.  I imagine the other children are born in NY, also.

I have been researching in the UK for this family and think I might have them.
The William Breeze and family look good but a better confirmation would be if we could find Hannah and, at least, the eldest two children, travelling to the USA  too.
I have a marriage certificate for a William and Hannah in 1844.
The two eldest children you list would have been born about 1845 & 1848 respectively.
The third could have been born in the UK ot the USA depending on when Hannah travelled out.

Would it be possible to check for travle details of Hannah Breeze born 1825 ?

We hope not in this case.
We have a family listed in the 1860 census in New York and again in the 1880 census, still in New York.

We just need to find when the wife and kids travelled over if, in deed , we have the right connections

Bruce, I had a good search at the local library.  I found both Hannah's immigration and also the 1870 census.  The index on the census lists the family as Bruse, probably took the double "e" as a "u" so that is why I couldn't find them on the index I use.  Here is what I found----Genealiza

What a good clue genealiza has found! The check mark in the column "Male citizens 21 or over" means that the individual had naturalized. So by 1870 William had his nat. papers.

You can now search for his records in New York and see what is on them. http://naturalizationrecords.com/usa/ will get you started. Be sure to go to NEW YORK then ONLINE RECORDS as there are many NY nats online. If he isn't there, follow the instructions for offline searching

I had been given some of this transcription before but not the bit about the baby 'dying on board'  We believe his name was Jarvis and he was only 2 months old at the time of the voyage.
I had assumed there was a problem as I had found the family in the 1860 Fond Du Lac census but baby Jarvis was not listed. This now confirms that he never made it on the trip.

I went back and had another look at the manifest image. It does look like "Jarvis" now that you have said the name. The age however is very clear and it is 2 1/2 exactly the same as Rebecca.

So it looks like little Rebecca had a twin Jarvis who died on board
