Hi Diane
Yes Robert was married to Sarah and had children.
The only thing I couldn't understand was were was he in 1871.
I know he wasnt with Sarah at that time.It would be interesting to know how long he was in Steyning.
Thanks

I have a Robert Grace in Liverpool in 1871 married to a Catherine Mccomac. Robert born 1915. listed are children Peter 18, Michael 16. Eleanor 8 and Patrick 2.I have often wondered whether this was Robert,s second wife as such a big gap between Michael and Eleanor.

The whole Grace family seem to be pretty elusive  in 1871 ???
Have you found any of them?

for info. GRACE family on other censuses Brighton Sussex

1851c Robert b1814 Gardener, Sarah b1823 children Sarah 4, Robert 3 (1848) Brighton , James 1

1861c Robert  b1814 Gardener , children  Robert 13, James 11 & George 7

1861c Sarah b1823  Petworth, children Sarah 14, Henry 4 visitors
           Head James Clements Gardener

1881c Sarah Wid b1823 Wisborough Green  with her two boys Robert 32 Fly Driver & George 28 - Jersey Street

1891c Sarah Wid 67 b1824 Petworth, Robert 44 occ  carriage Driver – Jersey Street

1901 Sarah b1823 Wisborough Green Brighton Union Workhouse

The census posted by venusian looks a possibility for Robert Junior
