Maidstone Grave look up Happy Granny
« on: Sunday 25 September 05 20:03 BST (UK) »
You may hold the answer to our dilemma. I am looking for the burial of my Great grandfather, George Spice. He was killed sometime between 1918 and 1922. He died from a Farm accident rumour has it, it was a combine Harvester. He was in his early 40S when he died and was Buried at Maidstone Cemetery in Sutton Road. His wife was Mary Emily, sorry I can not give you any dates as this is all we have to go on.
Many thanks for your time

Hi Angie

Maidstone Council may be able to help you in the first instance which would help with a grave search:

Hi Angie

The Sutton Road Cemetery records are also held at the Vinters Park Crem, 1858 onwards. I have found that if you can provide the exact year they do not normally charge for the lookup.

If you can pin it down to the year I will pop in and get the info and if theres a grave stone will be glad to take a pic. This is one cemetery that requires the plot number and section and a map.

Hi Linda
Thank you for that info, but, I am waiting for Vinters Park to reply to my letter. And I know that Maidstone Cemetery is a vast place. But very nicely laid out. I manged to find a cousin of mine who died in the WW2,  the reason I left a message on here because Happy Granny was offering look up on Maidstone graves. I thought that it might help find him as I can not find him on the BMD registry. I've been through them all. So I am finding it hard to break down this brick wall.
Again Many thanks

Hi Angie

Did you have any luck with this ???

If not, try sending an email to the Bereavement Services Officer at Vintners Park Crematorium.  The Borough Cemetery in Sutton Road, Maidstone opened in the 1850s and they hold the records.

I say this because another of our members has had a rapid response from them in resepect of a similar query.

Again, if you are still looking, you may be able to narrow down the date of death by searching the BMD indexes which are currently free to view http://www.ancestry.co.uk - choose the . option.

Hi Casalaguidi
Thank you for information I did get a response from Vinters Park Maidstone. I have found my other great grandparents and their 16 year old daughter grave not far from my cousin. Vinters Park provided me with a map. I was not charged anything because I had dates and names of when they died. I did find my other Great grandfather George Spice, his story was in the local newspaper archives in our library, we sussed out roughly the year span and went from their alas I did not pursue it any further of yet as my Dad and I got caught up in refurbishing the graves but I will be going back to Vinters Park to find him
Many thanks fro your help
