1841/1851 Green/Simons
« on: Sunday 25 September 05 13:40 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace George Green b. 1823 and his wife Sarah Ann Simons b. cir.1824.  I believe I have their marriage in Leicester Sept. 1840, I am about to send for their certificate.

I know they moved to Birmingham in the 1850's, their (I think) eldest child was born 1856/7, and I have them on the 1861/1871 census for Birmingham.

I cannot find them on the 1851 for Birmingham, so I am hoping they were still in Leicester.  Can anyone find them on the 1841 and 1851 census for me.

With grateful thanks
Maz

Thanks for that.  Can't say at present, I do not have much to go on.  Ages are 3 years out but I know that doesn't mean a thing and I do not have anything on the daughter Elizabeth.
Not happy about the "bone cutter" bit, yuk!  :o  If it is him, he improved and went on to be a "Fruiterer", much better.

I will keep it to hand just in case!

I am a silly billy.  Just noticed you say his wife was Elizabeth.  My George is married to a Sarah Ann Simons.  So the answer is its not him.

Thanks anyway

Cheers Jane

See you have a Simmons in your names - couldn't be related!  On my great grandmother's birth certificate they have put her maiden name as Simmonds not Simons.

Longshot I know ;D

Hi, have only just noticed your message, and wonder if you are part of my family?
I have George Green born in London, who married Sarah Ann Simons. I think that they were married in Leicester in 1840. George was my Grt. Grandfather.
They did move to Birmingham and lived in Brearley street in 1861.
Georges father was William who married twice. Once to Sarah Mobbs in London, and later to an Ann @ Loughborough.
William's father was Joseph of Loughborough, and he married a Sarah
George had a son Frederick. My Grandfather, He married a Prudence Davis in Birmingham. fter having some of their children, they moved back to Leicester.
I expect after all of this time, you have all the info, but just in case, I thought I would send what I know. Eileen.

:o wow what can I say, except I had totally forgotten I had placed a post, surely it wasn't 2005!

I didn't get too far with George Green except from somewhere I have a birth date for him of 15 June 1823 (could be a baptism date) and a marriage date of Sept qtr 1840.  I did say way back then that I was sending for the marriage certificate but for some reason that never happened, it has now spurred me on to get it. I have even found them on the 1851 census now thanks to you - I already have the others.

My Great Grandmother was Roseanna Green, she was born 1859 Brearley Street and according to census sheets I have she had siblings George 1844 Sarah Ann 1847 Frederick 1850 (assume he is yours?) and Frank 1863.  That means George snr was my Great Great Grandfather, which also means that we are 2nd cousins 1 x removed! according to my ever ready calculator.

Would love to discuss more, perhaps by private email which I am happy to do.

Can't wait to hear from you, regards
Marilyn :)
